Your thorax is the space in your chest from your diaphragm up 🌬

It's an area that contains your heart and lungs 🫁 and is protected by your ribs and spine 🔙

It's an area I almost always assess because its links your neck and shoulders to your low back and hips

Its an area that gets prone to stiffness due to
❄️ Coughs and colds
🗣 stress breathing (short breaths from your neck)
💪 Loading from anterior shoulders (from desk work or shoulder pain)

And when it's tight and stiff it impacts low back pain 🌩

Getting it supple and moving will help but its not an easy place you can get to yourself

When Brian came to see me with dizziness I wasnt absolutely sure I could help 🤔

He certainly had got stiff in his upper back and neck and I hoped my cranial skills could help with any compressions, pulls and strains that included his head

❄️ Does your pain get worse in cold and damp weather? ❄️

Its not all in your head. There is research that concludes that high humidity - the amount of water held in the air - and low temperatures mean more intense pain. 🌩⚡️⛈️

All this cold weather may be exacerbating your pain BUT a hands on therapy like osteopathy can help 🙋🏼‍♀️

My job entails:
- Listening to what's happened to your body 👂
- Assessing for areas that aren't moving well, have got weak, have got wobbly or have got stuck 🤔
- Applying gentle force like compression, traction to get something moving as it's supposed to again 👐

Does anyone else still work off a paper diary? 📝✍️✏️

Today ends that time when you carry two diaries around, one foot in 2025, one eye in 2026.

I still prefer paper and a pencil to reflect, plan and make amends. 2025 was the year I stuck to a semi regular journal 📝and it's been helpful to look back at how my year went in small daily details that I would otherwise forget.

I always find NYE a bit too tinged with nostalgia, I prefer the fresh start of NY's day ⛅️ knowing that its not to far away from the goals and aspirations I had yesterday 🙃

However you celebrate the turning of the clock ⏲️ I hope you find joy in it 🎉

Happy Christmas to you all 🎄 and all the very best wishes for 2026 ✨️💫

Being in a touch based profession 👐 that listens, assesses, offers treatment and responds within a
person-person encounter usually around pain and - let's be honest - suffering - is a privilege. 🌟

While I've been getting over my own recent episode of illness, I haven't been working. It's important in my work to hold a safe space and that's not been possible.

Luckily I'm much better and looking forward to getting back to work after Christmas.
