Acupuncture is a well-established treatment within physiotherapy and is widely used to support pain management and rehabilitation.

At Elevate Physiotherapy, we use acupuncture as part of an evidence-based, integrated treatment approach to help:
* Reduce musculoskeletal pain
* Improve joint and muscle function
* Support recovery from injury
* Manage headaches and migraines
* Address persistent or chronic pain conditions

By stimulating specific points, acupuncture can help modulate pain pathways, reduce muscle tension and support the body’s natural healing responses — particularly when combined with physiotherapy-led rehabilitation.

All acupuncture treatments at Elevate are delivered by fully qualified physiotherapists, ensuring care is safe, clinically appropriate and tailored to your individual needs.

• Shockwave Therapy Series | Achilles Tendon Pain

As part of our ongoing series highlighting the conditions Shockwave Therapy can effectively treat, we’re focusing on one of the most common — and frustrating — issues we see: Achilles tendinopathy.

Achilles pain can significantly disrupt both training and everyday life, making walking, running and even standing uncomfortable. When symptoms persist despite rest, ice and stretching, a more targeted treatment approach is often needed.

At Elevate Physiotherapy, we use Shockwave Therapy with the Storz Medical system, a clinically proven technology trusted worldwide for treating stubborn tendon conditions. Achilles tendinopathy is one of the most extensively researched applications of shockwave therapy, with strong evidence supporting pain reduction and improved function — particularly when combined with a structured strengthening programme.

Every course of treatment begins with a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment to ensure shockwave therapy is appropriate, alongside tailored exercise guidance and self-management advice. Many patients report noticeable improvements within just a few weeks.

If Achilles pain is limiting your movement or holding back your training, our experienced team is here to help.

•• Plantar Fasciitis — when every step hurts

Persistent heel pain can be more than “just a niggle.”
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of foot pain we see, often presenting as sharp discomfort with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.

It can be triggered by a combination of factors — sudden increases in activity, running or standing for long periods, poor footwear, reduced ankle mobility, or overload through the foot and calf. Left untreated, it can become stubborn and genuinely debilitating, affecting work, training, and day-to-day life.

At Elevate, we focus on treating the cause, not just the symptoms. Your assessment looks beyond the foot itself, considering strength, movement, loading and biomechanics, before building a tailored treatment plan.

For persistent or long-standing plantar fasciitis, Shockwave Therapy can play a key role. Using our Storz Ultra-Radial Shockwave device, we deliver controlled acoustic waves to the affected tissue to stimulate blood flow, support tissue repair and restart the healing process — helping to reduce pain and restore function.

If heel pain is limiting what you can do, you don’t have to push through it.

Get in touch today to book an assessment and start moving more comfortably again.

Training season is well and truly underway 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

From local charity 10Ks and half marathons to major events like the Manchester Marathon and the TCS London Marathon, the UK calendar is packed — with well over a thousand organised runs taking place each year. It’s no surprise we’re seeing more runners putting in serious mileage right now.

With that increase in training often comes an increase in runner-related injuries — niggles that build into tendon pain, overload issues, calf and Achilles problems, knee pain or persistent tightness that starts to limit progress.

Smart training progression is key, but if something doesn’t feel right, pushing through isn’t always the answer. At Elevate Physiotherapy, we’re seeing a rise in runners seeking expert assessment, treatment and guidance — whether that’s to manage an early issue, recover from injury, or keep training on track.

If running is part of your 2026 goals and pain is starting to creep in, our experienced team is here to help you get back to moving comfortably and confidently — on the road, treadmill or track.

•• Shockwave Therapy — treating the cause, not just the pain ••

Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment designed to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes when pain or injury has become stubborn or long-standing.

It works by delivering controlled acoustic waves into injured tissue, increasing local blood flow, stimulating the release of growth factors and supporting tissue repair. Rather than masking symptoms, shockwave therapy helps create the conditions your body needs to heal itself.

At Elevate, we deliver Shockwave Therapy using the Storz Ultra-Radial Shockwave device — a gold-standard system trusted worldwide for its precision, depth of pe*******on and proven clinical effectiveness in treating chronic and persistent conditions such as:
• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles and patellar tendinopathy
• Tennis and golfer’s elbow
• Rotator cuff and shoulder pain
• Hip, knee, back and neck pain

Shockwave Therapy forms part of a tailored treatment plan, combined with hands-on therapy and rehabilitation where appropriate, ensuring the right approach for your condition, lifestyle and goals. If pain has been holding you back longer than it should, get in touch to find out if Shockwave Therapy could help you move forward again.

•• Formthotics™ Insoles – supporting movement from the ground up

Your feet play a critical role in how your entire body moves. When foot mechanics aren’t working efficiently, this can contribute to problems further up the chain — including the ankles, knees, hips and lower back.

Formthotics™ are heat-moulded, medical-grade insoles developed using biomechanical science. They’re designed to support natural foot alignment, improve load distribution and optimise how forces move through the body during walking and running.

Key benefits include:
* Improved foot alignment and stability
* Better shock absorption and pressure distribution
* Reduced strain on joints, muscles and soft tissue
* Support for more efficient, comfortable movement
* Additional support for diabetic foot health, helping to redistribute pressure and improve stability
* Improved balance and confidence, which can help reduce the risk of falls

At Elevate Physiotherapy, we may recommend Formthotics™ as part of a broader corrective strategy, alongside hands-on treatment and rehabilitation, when we identify that foot mechanics are contributing to pain or movement restriction — and where we believe they will make a meaningful difference to your recovery, balance and long-term movement.

They’re not a generic add-on and not required for everyone, but in the right circumstances, they can play an important role in helping you move with greater confidence and control.

Sports massage isn’t about candles and relaxation. It’s a targeted, clinical treatment designed to work into muscles, tendons and soft tissue to help relieve tension, improve movement and support recovery.

At Elevate Physiotherapy, sports massage is just as beneficial for desk workers, busy parents and active lifestyles as it is for athletes. If you’re dealing with tight muscles, recurring aches, stiffness or training fatigue, this is about keeping your body working well — not just unwinding.

Key benefits include:
* Reduced muscle tension and soreness
* Improved flexibility and range of movement
* Better circulation and recovery
* Support with injury prevention and ongoing maintenance

To help you commit to regular treatment, we’re offering 10% off when you book a course of four sessions:

• New Year - New You?

As many people kick-start fitness goals in January after periods of inactivity, it’s important to approach exercise with care.
Research from the UK shows that physical inactivity remains widespread — with almost three in four adults not meeting the NHS recommended activity per week and one in three doing no vigorous exercise at all over the past year... and while staying active is beneficial, any sudden jump in intensity or volume without proper planning increases the risk of injury. Sprains, strains and lower-limb complaints are commonly seen when training loads exceed what the body is ready for.

At Elevate Physiotherapy, we recommend setting realistic goals, building training programmes gradually, and factoring in rest and recovery — especially after a sedentary period. A structured approach not only helps you stay consistent but also significantly reduces your chance of setbacks. If you’re unsure how to begin safely, our team can help design a plan tailored to your current fitness and aspirations.
