❄️ Winter is coming so are the cold nights ...❄️

🌑The cold temperatures are particularly challenging for horses with arthritis because the viscosity of the synovial liquid is changing and is getting thicker.

βœ– Osteoarthritis is a wear of the cartilage which goes with the narrowing of the interarticular space. Due to the lack of space between the two bones the joints are not lubricated enough (without warm up), this will lead to discomfort and stiffness.

⚠ This is not always obvious to think that your horse should work despite its arthritis however it does help him to maintain his good condition, flexibility and to avoid stiffness and lack of muscles.

Activity improves blood circulation, nourishes the skin and coat and supports/ protects the joints and protects their flexibility by building up muscles.

Activity helps irrigate the surrounding structures of the cartilage. Activity helps to slow the development of osteoarthritis, and stay healthy.

Every horse is unique and light, moderate work is recommended in order to avoid traumatic movements.

As always, a 20 minute warm-up and 10-minute cool-down is helpful.

What I personally use for my own horses (and recommend to my clients) is the Marine mud to Support Joint Health

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· Natural marine sediments extracted from the famous bay of Mont St Michel in France.

πŸƒUnique and totally natural, this marine mud is made up of 100% seabed collected at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel, in the very heart of the famous bay *.

🌊 The mud, loaded with sediment, is ionized in the laboratory and thus rendered completely healthy and ready for use. It is not subject to any other treatment and thus retains its full potential for action.

It can be used before and after exercise, it relieves bone pathologies by using its high concentration of calcium and muscle pathologies by acting on deep tissues (osteoarthritis, strain, bone spavin, hyperlaxity of the peroneus tertius, sprain, etc.).

Rich in calcium, magnesium and iron. Can be applied over the joint or affected area (neck, back, hip joints, shoulder, elbow, knee, stifle, hock, fetlock).

'Some time ago, I attended an evening talk at a vet practice as there were two topics I was genuinely interested in:

The first one was about hoof care. This is clearly not my area of expertise but having experienced laminitis and a considerable number of abscess cases on my own horse I was determined to find out more...'

The summary of my evening at the talk will be in my next newsletter. This will be out before the end of week.

I am sure you all remember this sweet pony who had his second treatment some time ago.

The owner reported that picking up his legs was much easier for the farrier and for the pony.

See below the two pictures to show you the positives changes.

Have a look at the topline and notice how the croup is much more level with the whither compare to the first picture.

I am firmly convinced that horses who live in a peaceful environment and have stress free life recover much better and quicker from injuries, dysfunctions and trauma.

This case study is an excellent example of this.

Following my post from last week regarding this horse for sale, I am sharing now the pictures without the edited background along with my comments.

We all agreed that there is a serious back issue! This is clearly after this comment from myself that the original post was deleted (or maybe I got blocked).

βœ– Some people could not believe this horse was ridden. Sadly, he is.

βœ– Other noticed that the legs were much smaller than the front. Which is true.

βœ– One person said that it was fake. I wish it was.

Right, this 4yo horse is massively compressed from the mid thoracic up until the tail (until the tail truly ends not where the hair starts).

This gives us a feeling that the legs and the croup are smaller, thinner as if there was a delayed growth in this area.

πŸŒ€ The tensegrity in this horse’ body is too high, unbalanced, the forces are too strong and uneven.

πŸŒ€The traction force within the nervous system is too high.

I even suspect a rotation of the barrel, but we cannot be sure due to the angles of the pictures.

⚠️ Having your horse – specifically your growing horse – regularly checked by a bodyworker is CRUCIAL ⚠️

πŸ‘ The good news is this pathology is treatable (this is far from being a quick fix!)

πŸ‘ And the second news if this is what I will teach to the therapists who will be attending my 2026 clinic.

That in this case, horse care also comes with an ethical riding.

πŸ“„ More information to come.
