Shedding is activated with the daylight which will pass through the retina and communicate the information to the hypothalamus and the pineal gland (endocrine gland responsible for melatonin production).

It’s a natural fascinating process but sometimes horses need extra help removing the winter coat.

A curry comb is a great option but I find it not soft enough so I used a lightweight one.

In winter it helps to warm up some areas like the back and in spring it helps to remove dust , mud and hair (you can tell in the picture!!)

Don’t forget to groom your horse it has so may benefits whether you are a rider or an owner.

Morning all,

Denise from Sussex Equine Massage Therapy and I will have to reschedule the lunch to another date!

This is likely to be towards the end of May/ beginning of June, hopefully we will meet you all there!

We will announce the date nearer to the time 😇

So excited to finally meet Jennifer today over lunch. I think we chatted non stop for 2 hours in between mouthfuls of pizza that is ! If you’re a therapist you’ll know how it is when you meet a fellow practitioner- there is always so much to share and discuss, as much as we all love our jobs it can be tricky sometimes with no one to share ideas, thoughts or even just have a moan to!

So we thought… why not invite all equine therapists in the area too.

If you’d like to join us for lunch - no agenda, or pressure - just a relaxed, supportive space to have a chat and a laugh, share ideas, and swap news then we’d love you to join us.

We’ll be meeting again at Zizzi’s Haywards Heath on Friday 20th March at 12 so if you’d like to join drop a comment or send either of us a message.

🎶Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care
When I put the clay around you
It gets mud fever away that's so hard to believe

Some horses got mud fever
That is something you all know
Mud Fever isn't such a new thing
Mud Fever started long ago

Now you've listened to my lyrics
Here's the point that I have made

Draining clay was created to get rid of mud fever

Be it paste and wet or powder …🎶

It seems that some horse still struggle with mud fever which doesn’t surprise me with the winter we had.

I like to recommend the draining clay paste. 🌊

This treatment is for you if you wish to:
– Soothe your tissues
– Eliminate toxins
– Improve your blood circulation

The skin needs to be dry and clean and then you can apply the paste safely.

Neurodynamics techniques for horses and dogs 🌀

All originated from the very popular stretching for horses I have always questioned. With the practice of these stretching we focus on muscles. But are they the only structures involved?

What about nerves, nervous system and the pain parameter?

So, I reflected a lot, thought about my osteopathic techniques I use on daily basis and started a lot of research in both human and equine literature. Then, the inspiration came and I started my content.

Over the course of those two dates I am taking you through all the parameters we need to take into consideration when we address pain from a neurologic perspective. What are the red flags?

What triggers and soothes the pain?

We will spend time talking about anatomy of the nervous system, its dysfunctions and obviously how to treat these.
What is the medullar traction force? What does it look like and how to address this dysfunction?

What is the science behind it?

What are the symptoms?

Stretching’s are widely recommended during rehab plans, but are they truly beneficial?

My role is to teach you the techniques best suited to the practical cases you will encounter in order to best support them in their rehabilitation phase whether there was a surgery or not by proposing a treatment plan that is adapted and respectful of the horse’s physical and emotional integrity.

I have not been able to introduce the two new brushes🧴 I brought back from France.

The first one is made of silicon and is very soft which means you can use it to bath your horse with any shampoo (without chemical ideally). I bought one (you can see in the background - Formulated with seaweed 🍃, it gently cleanses while intensely nourishing.) as I want to test on my own boys!

This brush is suitable to warm up the back very gently but not suitable to remove the seaweed wrap once dry (use a curry comb instead)!

The second brush is a little harder - having experienced myself at the tradeshow it feels like using a horsehair glove, with a pleasant feeling of fluid flow afterwards. It activates the blood supply and the lymphatic system.

It is made with silicon and boar bristles but it is great. You can use it on the back and on the croup/ bum of your horse or ... one yourself! My mum stole me one already!

The combo of both is ideal and I have got some in stock!

How to end well the week?

With a matcha 🍵 in a good company and hearing one of the owners whispered to the horse how much she loved him during the treatment I was giving … 💗

As my practice as a therapist has developed, I've had (and still have) the opportunity to regularly work with horses belonging to riders who trust me.

It goes without saying that regular follow-up helps avoid overly complex adjustments with more frequent sessions; but above all, it ensures that the most respectful and lasting progress takes root over time, through consistent and regular support and the ongoing involvement of the rider/owner (always!).

My approach allows:

🙌 Deeper work that respects each individual's pace of training, emotional and physiological states and evolutions;

🙌 A better understanding of the physical and emotional issues involved;

🙌 And genuine progress for both the animal and the human involved.

I really enjoyed my time yesterday with Denise from Sussex Equine Massage Therapy.

2 hours were clearly not enough and we could have been talking the whole afternoon (with cocktails!).

For this reason we are meeting up again on the 20th of March at the same place so any local fellow practitioners are more than welcome to join us for a yummy lunch 🍕

So excited to finally meet Jennifer today over lunch. I think we chatted non stop for 2 hours in between mouthfuls of pizza that is !
