Hearing Voices support group.

Hearing Voices Groups bring together people with shared experiences to support one another in a safe, understanding space. They offer a haven for anyone who hears, sees or senses things others don’t — a place where you can feel accepted, valued and understood.

Following the success of Jami’s first Hearing Voices support group in March, plans are now in place to run the peer-led programme for a second time. 🧡

Led by a Jami peer support worker with lived experience alongside a clinician, the five-session group created a safe space for people experiencing hearing voices, unusual thoughts and beliefs, visions, and tactile hallucinations to connect, share, and support one another.

Together, members explored how these experiences affect their lives, how they are perceived by others, and how they want to be understood and supported.

Isolation, stigma, and feeling like you don’t belong can be overwhelming for voice hearers but this group offered connection, coping strategies, and community.

Senior Peer Support Worker Joanna Hahessy shared: “We felt a connection and camaraderie, which really united the group. Sharing lived experiences brought us together so much so that members wanted to continue meeting monthly for coffee at Head Room.”

For participants experiencing Jewish-significant hallucinations, the group also provided culturally sensitive support in a safe and understanding environment.

Each participant received a resource pack with coping strategies, sleep support, practical tools for managing disturbing voices, and information about hearing voices.

We’re proud to be launching a first-of-its-kind community su***de-prevention programme.

Designed specifically for the Jewish community, this landmark programme is the result of three years of research, consultation and lived-experience insight. It aims to equip people with the confidence, skills and understanding to support someone experiencing thoughts of su***de, while recognising the cultural and emotional factors that can make seeking help harder.

At the heart of the programme are the voices of people with lived experience. Everyone featured in the launch video here has been directly affected by su***de or works closely with people who have been, helping participants learn through real stories, compassion and honesty, not checklists.
This work emerged after extensive conversations with service users, carers, people bereaved by su***de, rabbis, pastoral leaders and a dedicated advisory panel of individuals affected by suicidality. One message came through clearly: people want to help, but often don’t feel confident about how to respond.

This programme changes that – strengthening confidence, reducing stigma and helping our community hold space for one another when it matters most.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who shared their experiences so openly. This launch marks an important step forward in how we approach su***de prevention – and why it matters now more than ever.

🏃‍♀️ From Couch to Marathon. 🏁

Debby is about to run her very first TCS London Marathon and it’s been a long time coming. After five years of trying to secure a ballot place, she’s finally taking on the iconic challenge, just days before her birthday.

Her journey started during Covid, when empty London streets and a lack of routine led her to try Couch to 5K. What began as a way to build structure quickly became a passion, transforming her wellbeing and leading her to multiple half marathons and now, her first full marathon. 👏🏼

Training hasn’t just been about distance. Debbie has learned the importance of slowing down, fuelling properly, balancing strength work, and prioritising recovery to stay injury-free. Rainy winter runs and a busy life tested her discipline, but she’s embraced every lesson along the way.

She’s running in support of mental health charity Jami, combining her love of running with her work as an NHS nurse supporting young people. Her motivation? To honour the resilience of those facing mental health challenges and help create a sense of community and understanding.

Race day brings nerves, especially the crowds and the distance but Debbie is focused on enjoying the experience rather than chasing a time. After all, finishing her first marathon will already be a personal best.

And the celebrations? A full week of them, good food, a spa day, and proudly wearing that medal everywhere she goes.

🧡 Running for resilience. Running for community. Running for change.

🏃‍♂️ Meet Jake Russell.

26-year-old Jake is taking on the London Marathon this Sunday (26 April) which is his second time running the iconic race.

Jake has been part of Jami and Jewish Care for two years, helping organise events that raise vital funds and awareness. Seeing firsthand how these services change lives is what drives him.

“Mental health is underfunded, and Jami provides support so many people rely on. That’s why this matters.” 🫶🏼

Through injury and setbacks, Jake is pushing for the finish and will be cheered on by friends, family, and a well-earned celebratory drink at the end.

We’re proud to share that young people supported by Jami’s Dangoor Children and Young Person’s Service have helped shape a new online national mental health guide created by YoungMinds, in collaboration with Jami.

Young Jewish service users aged 11–25 shared their lived experiences, challenges and hopes – helping ensure the guide truly reflects the realities of Jewish identity, faith, community and wellbeing. Insights highlighted the strength many find in traditions and community, alongside the impact of rising antisemitism and the wider political climate on young people’s mental health.

The result is a culturally sensitive, faith aware mental health guide for young Jewish people, now live on the YoungMinds website.
Thank you to every young person who contributed – your voices are shaping support for others.

Take a moment for yourself this Social Prescribing Day. 🌿

Social prescribing is all about choosing simple, positive actions that support your wellbeing—whether that’s moving your body, learning something new, or connecting with others. Small steps can have a big impact on how we feel.

At JC Explore, we offer a variety of engaging sessions, including art, history, chair yoga, Pilates, mindfulness, and digital skills—helping you stay active, curious, and connected.

You can also join us at Head Room, Jami's social enterprise café, supported by The Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation, where our welcoming café hosts groups designed to support your mental health and wellbeing. From gentle movement and relaxation sessions, as part of our walking group to creative and social activities, Head Room is the perfect place to unwind, build confidence, and meet others in a supportive environment.

Why not “prescribe” yourself something uplifting today? Try a class, take time to pause, or reach out and connect.

Your wellbeing matters—make it a priority. 🧡💜
