Practise makes p̶e̶r̶f̶e̶c̶t̶ ❌ Progress ✅
I've never been one for "progress pictures" - if you know me, you know the aesthetics of Yoga are not something I emphasise when it comes to my teaching, or my own practise.
But our bodies are reflections of our minds; our life experiences; our inner worlds...
So how our bodies move and behave is a huge indicator for our mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing 💆🏼♀️🫧
Around this time last year, something major happened in my life which enabled me to release a lot of stored emotional tension. I was all of a sudden totally freed from lifelong burden, and the change I've felt in my body is wild.
There are no 2023/4 pics here (bc I don't have any! I'm very rubbish at the whole social media thing!!) but if there were, we might only see a small change from the previous pictures circa 2020-22. The biggest shift has been in the last 12 months, since this life event.
All this is to say - yes, we can see physical shifts through these photos, but what you can't see?
~ the new found sense of agency I have within myself, not just within my body but in my spirit
~ the way I truly *know* my body now, after a lifetime of being so disconnected
~ the ease & relief I have now, being able to move in a body that's a lot less filled with chronic ✨trauma pain✨
For moments like this I always come back to my fave Sutra, 1.12:
अभ्यासवैराग्याअभ्यां तन्निरोधः
abhyāsa-vairāgya-ābhyāṁ tan-nirodhaḥ
Dedication and detatchment stop the modifications of the mind
In other words: never give up, and always let go!
Keep practising, and you will free yourself from the "modifications of the mind" (ie - all the s**t we accumulate in our brains and bodies over a lifetime of stress and bad habits! 😅). But also, don't hold attachment to the outcome; let your practise carry you, and trust it to guide you to where you're supposed to be.
It worked for me 🤍
So yeah, now I've got a really deep down dog! But who cares what it looks like? What you can't see is so much more valuable 🌙💫✨
