Our ladies and gents had an absolutely fantastic morning with Calum from Cool Creatures and his wonderful range of animals. They were delighted to meet each and every one of them and watching them interact was so wholesome 💖

Earlier this week, we introduced our new Five Minute Activity trolley’s into our units.

Elderly people, particularly those suffering from dementia, benefit from regular, short bursts of brain stimulation, and these activities are the perfect way to promote this.

At Heatherfield, we utilise the Jackie Pool tool, this helps us to find the best type of Activity for individual residents. The tool allows us to allocate an activity type such as planned, exploratory, sensory or reflex, depending on the cognitive function and abilities of our ladies and gents.

The trolley activities are categorised to make it easy for staff and relatives to select an appropriate one for our residents and facilitate it. This is a great way to ensure that we continuously provide person centred care through our spontaneous activities and meaningful engagement.

This week, we officially implemented our new Keyworker program at Heatherfield.

We are very passionate about involving our residents in as many aspects of their care as possible, so this has taken us several months to plan and organise.

We asked both staff and residents who they thought thought they would make a good match with, and we involved as many relatives as we could in the process, and eventually we managed to pair every resident with their own keyworker.

The role of the keyworker is to be a little more involved in the care of their resident. They will have specific duties to perform on a regular basis as seen on the keyworker duties fork below. They will have some extra responsibilities and will act as a point of contact for families. This will help to improve communication, offer more support and a deeper sense of involvement.

You can find the details of our residents keyworkers displayed on their bedroom walls, and filed in their yellow folders.

And we are officially open 🎉🎉🎉

We are delighted to announce that tomorrow morning we will be officially opening our new cinema room for Heatherfield residents!

Staff have been working hard behind the scenes to create the Heatherfield Rex, a quiet, comfortable space where our residents can go in small groups or with family to watch movies in peace.

Our fridge will be stocked with ice cream and drinks and we will be offering a selection of sweets and treats for our viewers to enjoy from the comfort of our reclining chairs.

We can’t wait to put it to good use 🎬🎥🍿📽️

Colin and Margaret Bailey marked their Blue Sapphire Wedding Anniversary

Our final surprise for Colin and Margaret’s 65th wedding anniversary was a romantic meal for two in a private lounge.

They enjoyed homemade stew with fresh vegetables, baby potatoes and Yorkshire puddings followed by mousse and fresh fruit. Then celebrated with a beautiful cake. We are delighted that they have enjoyed their day, and we offer warm congratulations to the happy couple 💖

We hosted a beautiful celebratory party for Colin and Margaret today. We welcome Laurayne Kyle to perform for us and what a performance she gave. She had everyone singing and dancing and in great spirits. Now it’s time to prepare for a romantic evening meal for the happy couple. More photos to come!

Huge congratulations to Colin and Margaret on celebrating their Blue Sapphire wedding anniversary today. 65 years married! Less than 16% of marriages make it to this milestone, we are over the moon to be able to help them celebrate. 💍👰🏻🤵🏻💖

This afternoon we had a very special visitor. Darcy the dog popped in to showcase her fabulous doggy wardrobe for our residents. She was such a good girl and we were all besotted with her 🐾💖

What a fantastic morning we had with Michael from Memory Lane Productions, just look at those smiles 💖💖

Michael is a fantastic performer, he always takes the time to interact individually with everyone, regardless of their ability. He encourages everyone to sing along with him, and it’s surprising how many of our ladies and gents can remember every word to songs from their era.

Music is so beneficial for dementia sufferers, it stimulates the brain and promote memory recall. And of course, it gets them moving their bodies to the beat!
