Most people don’t lose extension

They lose exposure to it

If you spend hours each day sitting, driving, scrolling, or training in flexion.. your nervous system adapts to that as your normal

It becomes efficient there
It becomes safe there

And the opposite?
It feels stiff, Weak, Uncomfortable

Not because you’re damaged, because you’re unfamiliar

Your nervous system protects what it doesn’t trust

This is why randomly stretching rarely fixes the problem
You don’t just need more range - you need strength, control, and tolerance in that range

Gradual exposure changes what your body perceives as safe

Position ➡️ Exposure ➡️ Adaptation

Train the ranges you avoid

SHOULDER PAIN WHEN PRESSING? this one’s for you 🤝

This probably makes up about 15% of what I see day to day, the shoulder is complex and is very adaptable but also is very predictable

The vast majority of people are stuck in some form of T spine flexion & shoulder flexion due to desk work - if everything is already biased to being forward, it makes sense to put an emphasis on making the posterior shoulder an area to proactively work on

If this is something you struggle with, send me a message 📮

REST IS NOT A SOLUTION

This obviously doesn’t include serious damage but with 95% of most injuries this very much applies

Leaving something for a couple weeks and hoping it will be grand is not a viable tactic, tissue tolerance will reduce and you’ll be digging yourself a bigger hole to get out of

find what you can tolerate without pain and work with that, test the water as much as possible without taking the p**s

Work with a movement professional to see what biomechanical or movement qualities are lacking and work on them

If a Physio tells you that you should stop training for x amount of time or a GP says you should take up swimming instead due to a low back strain, please tell them to get fu**ed

Happy to announce I’m now integrated into the Performance Academy as the in-house rehab & injury specialist 🩼

I’ll be working closely with athletes who are managing injuries or need training adjustments around niggles.

Steve and I have been collaborating behind the scenes for the past six months, so it’s class to now make this official 🤞🏻

MOVEMENT+ with 🤝

He came to me after training through some crazy pain / discomfort in his elbow & shoulder after years of training like a mad man (not recommended)

Quickly after a few movement mechanics assessments I could see the lack of rotation at his shoulder was just chronically overloading down the chain to his elbow, alongside some nerve compression as a biproduct ♨️

We worked to correct this, not through “stretching” but progressive training with tweaks to bias what we were aiming for & adjusting volume / some exercises to reduce inflammation ♻️

Really enjoyed this one & working with Stu, what a guy

JUNK VOLUME 🚮

This is a overlooked area of training & something the vast majority of the general public fall into, doing 4 sets of 10 on everything and expecting progress

It takes time to find what your minimum effective dose is when it comes to volume but goes a long way to both progressing & stopping yourself from getting injured every month

Why do more if you can do less?

It should progress into strength, capacity, and confidence.
