📞 Edinburgh-based senior counselling psychologist, Dr Elspeth Quinn first joined First Psychology to work in our office as part of our client services team and she also supported our communications team. She then left to continue her studies to become a qualified counselling psychologist.
👂 In the later stages of her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Elspeth re-joined First Psychology, but this time as an advanced skills practitioner. In this role she gained experience of working with clients in a private therapy setting. After completing her course and qualifying as a counselling psychologist, Elspeth joined us as a partner practitioner.
Here's what she said about her journey:
💭 “I think it's great that there is not just one route to becoming involved in this kind of work. It is something that I have always been interested in, but wasn't always certain about what I wanted to do. My own journey has had so many different parts to it - I started learning more about writing, communication, and language, speaking to lots of different colleagues along the way, and working as part of the office team gave me a better sense of what interested me. After moving into a client facing role, I was able to engage with some wonderful courses, projects, and training, that have allowed me to see the variety of opportunities available when you dip your toe into the world of psychology. Years later, as a qualified counselling psychologist, the journey has not stopped! I am still always learning more about what is out there and what I can contribute to that.”
