Our Psychologist Dr. Louise Young and Assistant Psychologist Antonia Stewart attended the Scottish Head Injury Forum event in Ayrshire. The day included insightful speakers, a poignant performance from SHIMS, and beneficial networking with brain injury survivors and professionals from across Scotland.

It was Antonia's first SHIF event in her new role as SHIF Administrator where she works alongside our Operations Manager Gemma Scullion. This dynamic duo helped pull together the conference and did a remarkable job making sure everything ran smoothly!

✨ International Meditation Day! ✨

Did you know that meditation can be a powerful tool in rehabilitation? At Neurotherapy Services, our team of psychologists and neuro rehabilitation specialists often incorporate meditation techniques to support recovery, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being for those recovering from neurological injuries.

Research shows that meditation can help improve cognitive function, reduce anxiety, and promote neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to reorganize itself after injury.

Incorporating mindfulness and meditation practices can be a vital part of a holistic approach to neurological rehabilitation. Take a moment today to breathe, relax, and embrace the mind-body connection!

"Rehabilitation for amputation patients is vital for a positive future, and the Rehabilitation Code 2015 (RC) makes rehabilitation a priority to give people access to:

Prosthetics
Physiotherapy
Psychological support
Aids and equipment
Home adaptations
Occupational therapy

These things are ‘basic needs’ for an amputation patient but sadly the provision of prosthetics can be a hotly contested battleground, with some insurers pushing for cheaper options."

Oral health is vital for overall well-being, yet it often receives less attention, especially among individuals with disabilities. People with physical and cognitive impairments face challenges in maintaining oral health, which can lead to serious consequences if neglected.

Dangers of Neglecting Oral Health:

🦷 Tooth Decay and Loss
🦷 Periodontal Disease
🦷 Infections

Neuro therapists play a vital role in supporting oral health for individuals with disabilities:

Occupational Therapists: Can help develop adaptive techniques and tools to assist with daily oral hygiene routines, ensuring clients can maintain their oral health independently.

Physiotherapists: Can address neuromuscular issues that impact oral care, providing exercises to improve motor control and coordination for better oral hygiene.

Speech and Language Therapists: Can work on swallowing and chewing difficulties, ensuring safe and effective oral care practices.

Rehab Assistants: Can provide reinforcement of oral hygiene routines, helping clients practice and maintain good habits.

Psychologists: Can address behavioural challenges and cognitive impairments, developing strategies to motivate and support clients in maintaining their oral health.

By addressing the clients challenges with maintaining their oral health, we can improve the quality of life for those with neurological conditions and complex injuries.

During Brain Awareness Week, the Neurological Alliances of the UK called for urgent investment in neurological research. With over 70 organisations joining the campaign. This article highlights the need for continued funding to drive medical advancements and offer new hope to those in need.
