Spleen: The Great Mother Within

She is the one who nourishes, who understands without needing words.
She holds, supports, and steadies— the quiet center in the swirl of change.

The Spleen transforms Yi, the spirit of intention, into embodied confidence:
“I’ve got this.”
She moves and transports, yet knows when to pause, when to ask for support.
She teaches us to feel at home in ourselves— to retain, harmonize, and voice our needs with grace.

As we enter the season of Earth, may we root into her wisdom.
May we digest what’s scattered, and return to the center that holds us.

~~~She steadies. She nourishes. She knows~~~
🏵️ Late summer is the season of the Earth Element 🏵️
a time of ripening, nourishment, and return to center.
It is the still point between the outward Yang of summer
and the inward Yin of autumn.
A pause between seasons,
like the sacred space between the in-breath and out-breath.
When Earth is balanced, we feel held, nourished, and grounded.
When imbalanced, we spiral into worry, overthinking,
and sluggish digestion—physically and emotionally.
Earth is the Great Mother,
the archetype of the one who digests life’s experiences
and reminds us how to care for ourselves and others
in times of transition.
05/09/2025
This Thursday, 11th September at 3pm, we gather at the Salisbury Centre for the final perimenopause circle in this series.
We meet at a still point—where change is alive, and balance is something we feel, not force. A space to reflect on what we’re navigating, and explore what holds and supports us now.
If you feel called, I’d love to welcome you.
Everything about a woman’s life is cyclical, there is a never-ending spiral of growth and decay, building up and letting go, energy out and energy in.
It happens every month with the menstrual cycle, every 7 years with the life cycle and so on Same cycle, different speeds.
Each life cycle is a death and rebirth, a process of shedding and renewal. When we begin to metabolize and let go of the things that weigh us down, we can create room for exchange, nourishment, and new growth
According to Chinese medicine, there is a direct connection between the heart and the uterus through a meridian called the “Bao Mai”.
The Bao Mai is translated to the “Uterus Vessel” and is very sensitive to emotional stress and anxiety.
When we undergo extremes of different emotions, this has a direct effect on the way the qi and blood moves through our body. Anger and frustration make qi rise, fear makes the qi sink, sadness consumes qi and so on
In order for menstruation or conception to happen, the Bao Mai should be open and unobstructed.
In peri & menopause, it’s important to maintain the heart /uterus connection to avoid hot flushes and anxiety. In this stage of life, the womb evolves into an oasis to design your life from your spiritual/authentic self.
Join our Perimenopause Circle for a supportive environment to share and explore Taoist practices and heart-womb breathing techniques for emotional regulation and enhanced well-being during this life stage.
Discover the transformative power of ancient wisdom.
Starting this Thursday 10th April
At The Salisbury Centre
2 Salisbury Road
Edinburgh
3.00- 4.30 pm
~~~~~
Grounding is a process that helps individuals connect with the present moment, bringing a sense of stability and balance. Shiatsu is particularly effective in grounding individuals for several reasons:

1. Mind-Body Connection
Shiatsu encourages a deep connection between the mind and body. By focusing on specific pressure points and energy meridians, practitioners can help release physical tension and mental stress. This integration promotes a heightened awareness of bodily sensations, fostering a sense of being present.

2. Energy Flow Regulation
Shiatsu works to balance the body's energy flow, which can often become disrupted due to stress, anxiety, or other factors. By restoring this balance, individuals may experience improved emotional stability, leading to a more grounded state of being.

3. Physical Relaxation
The gentle pressure and stretching techniques used in Shiatsu can lead to profound physical relaxation. This relaxation not only alleviates muscle tension but also encourages deep breathing and a calm state of mind, both of which contribute to grounding.

4. Stress Reduction
One of the primary benefits of Shiatsu is its ability to reduce stress. By alleviating stress through physical manipulation and energy balancing, individuals often find themselves feeling more centered and grounded in their daily lives.

Spring is a season of growth, renewal, and expansion—but after winter’s stillness, our bodies can feel stiff and tense.

It is a time of renewal and movement, but when energy gets stuck, it can show up as tight shoulders, neck pain, frustration, PMS and even headaches or migraines.

In Chinese Medicine, this is the perfect season to clear stagnation and restore flow, helping you feel lighter, clearer, and more energized.

Liver and Gall Bladder Meridians are related to the sides of the body and this simple stretch helps to open the Meridians
~~~~~~
~Meridian Yoga or Makko-ho ~
are a sequence of six breathing exercises which both stimulate and encourage the flow of energy in your body. Each stretch open with different Meridian pair
Come and join us in monthly Perimenopause Circles at the Salisbury Centre
This space is for any women that is at the journey of the Perimenopause / Menopause
Whether you're just starting to notice symptoms or are deep in the midst of it, this circle is a safe space for you to connect and share
Together we will created a space where we can laugh, cry, and share our experiences of the journey so far in a safe and supportive environment.
As well as sharing, we will explore the embodiment practices to nourish and self-regulate
After the share we will move into the embodied practices to let go of anything from the body whenever that is emotions or physical symptoms We will also nourish and restore the bodies energy ( I will mainly draw from the Oriental medicine/Shiatsu (Meridians and Points)/ Taoist Practices for Women to support our body Energy Systems & Organs )
We will use movement, breath, sound or visualization All very simple hoping that some of the practices can become useful tools to have as a self care practice at home
We will finish with the integration practice or meditation to closing the space
Aim of the circle is NOT to educate or offer advice, but place to develop habit of self-care and create community of women who share the same journey
This is a community-led event at the Salisbury Centre, offered on a voluntary ‘by donation’ basis. No payment is expected if you are unable to contribute, but donations are appreciated to help sustain this initiative. You can donate by booking your ticket on Eventbrite
Spring is here...
“Yang is the energy, active and noisy, the vital force responsible for expanding.” “Yang is the sun and heaven. Yang enables growth; the warmth of the Spring gives rise to birth.” The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine (The Neijing Suwen)
Spring is the time to get up and do.. It is the season of activity. A time of stirring after the cold of winter It is the season of wind, both in the environment and in our bodies. Spring is the season to eat foods with upward energies, such as young,green sprouting above the ground.
