I highly recommend Dr Naomi Fisher for anyone with teens suffering from stress, overwhelm and anxiety. The course personally I attended from a well known NHS service a few years ago, left me feeling confused and upset. It was run on zoom and I actually cried on the zoom call in front of all the other parents - the frustration of a parent blaming culture was all too familiar. The advice and explanations did not match our experiences whatsoever, and it did not tie in with what I knew about accumulative stress from my experience as a solution focused hypnotherapist.
I worked with teens in my previous career as a speech and language therapist and I consistently have 40-50% teen caseload at any one time in my current role in clinical hypnotherapy. They amaze and inspire me all the time. So much wiser and insightful than the wider world gives them credit for.
Not all teens can manage 1:1 therapy when they are so overwhelmed. They may come round to it later; something might shift and things start to look a little brighter, and little more hopeful. But when you are in the depths of the confusion and worry and everything you suggest gets a hard automatic “no”, Naomi Fisher is a real ray of light.
Being a teenager is tough. Everything is changing, and the demands are high. Everyone expects so much more from you then they did just a short time before. It’s hard for teens to stay balanced, when everything in their life feels unstable.
Being the parent of a teen is tough. It’s hard for parents to know what to do to help. Teens can push you away just when you think they need you most. You’re walking on eggshells and don’t know what to do.
It can help to understand what is going on for teens. Teenage brain development is dramatic, and a major re-organisation goes on during adolescence. Their priorities change, their relationships shift – and you’re into a whole new stage.
How can you support your teen through the toughest times? That’s what I talk about in my mini-courses both for and about teens. Based on psychological theory and research, they’ll give you a new perspective on what’s happening for your teen and how you can help.
