What Gemma Collins in South Africa teaches us about the "Birth Vibe"
If you saw the "Gut Instincts" trial on I'm A Celeb South Africa, you saw the GC doing what she does best: turning a nightmare into a performance.
But did you notice how she got through eating those critter canopies? It wasn't just her "redemption" mindset-it was her campmates. While she was struggling, Seann Walsh was- giving her a back rub, and the whole camp (plus Ant & Dec!) were singing 'Wind Beneath My Wings" while Gemma danced along.
This is EXACTLY what I teach in Hypnobirthing. Here's why it works:
1. The "Soundtrack" Success
Gemma used the camp's singing as a Sensory Anchor. In birth, we can use a our own playlist or even rhythmic humming. When the brain is busy processing a melody or a rhythm, it has less "room" to focus on intense physical sensations. Its called Gate Control Theory-youre literally crowding the "gate"" so the "pain" signals can't all get through.
2. Oxytocin > Adrenaline
By dancing and laughing with her campmates, Gemma kept her Oxytocin levels high. Oxytocin is the "love hormone," and it is the fuel for birth. It works in direct opposition to Adrenaline (fear). When you dance or shimmy through a surge just like the way GC did at that trial table), you keep your muscles soft and your mind calm.
The Support Squad (The "Tribe")
Notice how she didn't do it alone? The campmates clapped, sang, and even gave her a massage. In the birth room, your birth partner is your "campmate." Their job is to hold the energy, provide the "vibe,"' and use touch to keep your nervous system regulated.
The Lesson: . You don't have to "endure" in silence. If singing, dancing, or having your partner belt out 90s classic helps you through a surge-- do it. Your body follows where your mind leads.
Are you gonna shimy your way through birth or are you wanting more chill vibes with uour birth partner giving you a massage? Drop it below which one you are!
