☔️ ‘TIS THE SEASON 🍁 for this “Dui Yao” 对药power combo - Dried Ginger and Schisandra Berry, or Gan Jiang 干姜 and Wu Wei Zi 五味子.

Dui Yao is the art of combining Chinese medicinals in order to enhance their healing effects, and mitigate potential side effects.

With the weather creeping into winter, I can feel myself needing to boost my Yang qi, especially after a lingering bout of cold and the return of some asthmatic symptoms.

🫚 Dried ginger warms the centre and expels cold, restores Yang, warms the lungs and transforms phlegm

🔴 Schisandra stabilises and consolidates energy, containing the leakage of lung qi and helping resolve coughing and wheezing

I’ve decided to try these beautiful tinctures from for the sheer ease of consumption, and of course the quality.

A fruity seasonal mashup 🍐Blustery Autumn days call for some slow-cooked Chinese soup! Should really be trying to find some Asian snow pears (moistening and nourishing for lungs) and dried figs (helps dry coughs), but am just using fresh ones that are easily available here. Throw in some pork, red dates, goji berries and parsnips, slow cook for 4 hours, and I got some pretty delicious soup! 🍲

Lessons with a master ☯️ Just had a fantastic day at for Advanced Clinical Approaches with Anthony Von Der Muhll. Practising for over 20 years, Anthony is a specialist in the field of orthopaedic acupuncture, and I’m so glad I managed to catch him while he was the UK.

He is one of the only US acupuncturists who teaches joint stabilization/mobilization needling, is certified in myofascial trigger point needling, and integrates these modern acupuncture methods with classical treatment of the jing-jin 经 筋 (“sinew meridians” or myofascial tracts).

Treating pain and helping people approach their own areas of resistance with curiosity is a passion of mine, and Anthony has really given us some fantastic insights and techniques that I can’t wait to try out in the clinic. Hope to see you there 🙏

The most delicious smelling beeswax 🐝 It’s gone into our homemade lip balm with shea butter and coconut oil and nothing else. So easy! I’m never buying lip balm ever again.

A couple of weeks ago, I got to spend a most lovely afternoon wandering the magical Victorian walled cut-flower garden at , listening to horticulturist Kathy share her wisdom about nurturing soil health. It really got me thinking about the parallels between growing healthy plants in healthy soil, how we tune into and care for the body, soul and spirit. “Feed the soil, not the plants” is the mantra, and it’s very similar to the TCM concept of “Treat the root, not the branch”; meaning understanding and addressing the physiological, emotional, spiritual and environmental/lifestyle factors that go into creating a particular condition, and not just trying to suppress symptoms. So many lovely confluences. The idea of interplanting and using green manure to promote and control what’s going on below and above the soil in a continuous harmonious rhythm working with the seasons can also be found in the TCM concept of the Five Phases, or Wu Xing (五行). So many thoughts… to be continued 🌸 If you get the chance to attend one of these workshops at

🌹 Late summer beauties 🌹 The rosehips are ripe and juicy, bursting with Vitamin C. Jacob’s mum planted these white and purple Rosa Rugosa hedgerows over a decade ago, and they are glorious! We made rosehip syrup just last week and it’s already half gone! Had meant to save it for winter to help ward off coughs and colds but I don’t think it’s going to last that long. Too delicious in cocktails, or with hot water and apple cider vinegar, or just straight up. Time to get harvesting again…
