EMDR therapy starts with Phase 1: getting to know your story ๐ŸŒฟ

In this first step, we talk about your past experiences, current triggers, and what you want to feel instead. Thereโ€™s no pressure to relive everything at once. Itโ€™s about building trust, understanding patterns, and creating a safe plan for healing.

Phase 1 is the foundation. When you feel heard and supported, real change can begin. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿง  EMDR and Grounding Skills for emotional regulation

Just wanted to share something super useful: EMDR and grounding skills for emotional regulation. Itโ€™s all about feeling more in control when life gets a bit overwhelming.

So, EMDR helps you process tough memories, making it easier to handle stress. Itโ€™s like giving your brain a little spring clean! ๐Ÿงนโœจ

Now, grounding skills are fab for when youโ€™re feeling anxious or out of sorts. You can try simple things like taking a deep breath and looking around you. Spot five things you can see, four things you can touch, and just breathe. It really brings you back to the moment. ๐ŸŒผ

Grounding statement
Write down a personalised grounding statement. This is a
reminder that you are safe. Try something like โ€˜I am safe,
it is 2026โ€™ or โ€˜I know this is a memory because I am bigger
than I was when my trauma happenedโ€™

How Does EMDR Work? EMDR therapy rewires the brain through bilateral stimulation. This technique activates both sides of the brain in a way that mirrors the natural processing that happens during REM sleep.
Understanding the EMDR Process
and Bilateral Stimulation.ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย
When we go through overwhelming experiences, the brain can struggle to process what happened. Traumatic memories may be stored in a fragmented, emotional form, disconnected from our sense of time, language, or logic. This can leave the nervous system in a constant state of alert, reacting as if the danger is still present.
EMDR helps by:
* Stimulating both brain hemispheres to enhance memory processing
* Desensitising painful or intrusive memories
* Reducing emotional triggers and hypervigilance
* Strengthening new, adaptive neural pathways
