LIP FLIP involves the injection of very small, precise doses of botulinum toxin into several points around the vermillion border, primarily on the upper lip.
🎯 Mechanism of Action
Targeted Muscle: The toxin is injected into the superficial fibers of the orbicularis oris muscle, which controls lip movements.
Relaxation: Botox temporarily relaxes this muscle at the injection sites.
"Eversion" Effect: When the muscle is relaxed, its natural tension and tendency to curl the upper lip (especially during a smile) decrease. As a result, the upper lip gently "curls" outward and upward, revealing more of the vermillion.
Optical Effect: The lips appear fuller, more prominent, and create a subtle "pout," but their actual volume (amount of tissue) remains unchanged.
🎯 Who Is a Lip Flip For?
Lip flips are an ideal alternative or complement to fillers, especially for people who:
Want a subtle effect: Are looking for natural lip definition, not excessive volume.
Have a thin upper lip that "disappears" when smiling: In some people, muscle tension causes the upper lip to curl, becoming invisible when smiling broadly (a "gummy smile"). Lip flips solve this problem.
Want to reduce smoker's lines: They can help soften fine vertical lines above the lips.
