One Last Whisk!
It’s the final week of our Autumn Baking Campaign – but there’s still time to get involved. Whip up something wonderful and help us raise dough for Marie Curie’s frontline care.

🧁 Big or small, every bake counts.
Thank you for making this season one to remember!

Method:
Place all ingredients into a heavy based pot and cook until soft. Check for seasoning.
1. Spread Philadelphia cheese on puff pastry sheet.
2. Spread a layer of Beetroot Chutney on top.
3. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese over evenly.
4. Roll the puff pastry firmly into a cylinder and when ready cut into 1 ½ inch thick pinwheels ready for baking.
5. Cook at 190 degrees for around 20 minutes on a floured tray.

Bake It Forward 🥖
Get cosy, get creative, and get baking!

From pumpkin muffins to ginger biscuits, your autumn bakes can help bring care and kindness to someone who needs it most.
💛 Every bake makes a difference… and let’s hear it for our 3rd recipe this month!

Method:
1. First cut puff pastry out in squares to desired size. Bake them at 180 degrees until risen but not too dark, around 15 mins. Leave aside to cool.
2. Roast butternut squash in half the olive oil till soft. Meanwhile fry the onion, garlic, mushroom and chilli in the remaining oil till cooked. Add chopped tomato and oregano. Simmer till reduced and thickened. Add the cooked squash at the end and check for seasoning before setting aside.
3. Next make hollows in your puff pastry squares by pressing pastry down in the middle. Spoon some ricotta into each of the squares then top with the Butternut squash mixture and sprinkle with grated cheese.
4. Return filled squares to the oven and bake at 180 degrees until cheese is bubbling and mixture is hot throughout- between 10 and 15 minutes depending on size.

Mighty congratulations to Connor on the completion of his epic challenge in recognition of the care given to his Grampa Billy by our Livingston team. Connor chose to walk the equivalent of the length of Scotland in just one month – this equates to 274 miles – and he remarkably managed to fit this feat around his 45-hour working week! Through the generosity of all his family and supporters he has raised the wonderful amount of £2150. 🥁🥇

“Throughout my Grampa's short battle with terminal cancer he experienced both physical and mental battles and the staff at Marie Curie in Livingston were superb with practical and emotional support for both my Grampa and Gran during his palliative care. When I decided I wanted to do this there was only ever one charity in mind for me because of this.”

Heartfelt thanks and have a more relaxing rest of the Summer. 💛🎉💛

Kick Off Autumn with a Cause 🍰🍂

Our chefs at the Glasgow Hospice, Chris and Julie shared a few of their much loved recipes to get you inspired! We will be sharing one recipe per week, so keep your eyes peeled for the others🥧🥯🍩

Method:

1. First make the tart pastry. Rub butter and flour together till breadcrumb stage. Mix in icing sugar.
2. Make Well in centre, add egg yolks and combine.
3. Work dough gently then refrigerate for 20 minutes.
4. When Pastry is Chilled, roll out and line a large tart tin. Chill pastry again for ten minutes before baking. Blind bake tart at 180 degrees for 20 minutes, then a further 5 minutes regular baking until pastry is cooked but not too dark. Leave aside.
5. Next, peel, core and halve pears. Poach them gently if they are not soft enough.
6. Make Frangipane by beating the butter and sugar together till light and fluffy. Gradually incorporate the eggs and add the almond essence. Fold in the flour and ground almond carefully.
7. Spoon mixture into tart case and arrange pears facing down on top. Bake at 160 degrees till frangipane has risen and turned a golden brown. The mixture should wobble just slightly when ready. Allow to cool and brush with apricot jam then sprinkle with the flaked almonds to finish.

Let’s bake a difference for end of life care and turn your seasonal treats into support for people living with a terminal illness. You’ll even receive a free Marie Curie daffodil cake stencil to decorate your bakes and a step-by-step guide!

"It is a real privilege being able to be with a patient at the end and witness the closing of their life’s chapter. It can be dignified, gentle and peaceful, however short or long that life has been. Despite the trauma of letting someone go, if families and friends have been supported in the right way, then accompanying and witnessing those last moments can be something they will always hold in their hearts and can be a source of comfort in the years ahead. This unspoken and subtle support is a very important part of the work we do." - Nurse Diana 💛
