💛 World Kindness Day at Forthland Lodge 💛

To celebrate World Kindness Day, our residents took part in a lovely activity focused on spreading positivity throughout our home. Everyone wrote thoughtful, encouraging messages on colourful heart-shaped notes - little reminders of kindness, gratitude, and care.

We then decorated our “Kindness Tree” with all these heartfelt messages, creating a beautiful display that brightened the whole home. 🌳

It was wonderful to see how much joy this simple act brought to both residents and staff - A little kindness truly goes a long way!

🎉 Happy Birthday to Jimmy! 🎉

Today we had the pleasure of celebrating our brilliant resident Jimmy’s special day here at Forthland Lodge! Even more special — he got to enjoy it alongside his wonderful sister, who also lives here with us. ❤️

Residents gathered together to share cake, laughter, and plenty of cheerful moments. It was lovely to see everyone come together to make Jimmy’s day one to remember.

🎉 A Very Happy Birthday to Diane! 🎉

Today we celebrated our lovely resident Diane’s special day! Diane is such a wonderful presence here at Forthland Lodge — always ready with a friendly chat and a smile that brightens everyone’s day.

We enjoyed some delicious cake, lots of laughter, and plenty of good company.

✨ A Wonderful Journey Through Time with the Edinburgh Book Festival! ✨📚

We’ve had such a fantastic time over the past few weeks as the Edinburgh Book Festival team joined us for a series of reading sessions here at our home.

This week explored the theme of Historical Fashion, taking us on a delightful trip through the styles and stories of the past — from elegant Victorian dresses to the swinging sixties!

Our residents have absolutely loved each and every session, enjoying the readings, discussions, and the chance to share their own memories of fashion through the years.

Now that their visits have come to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to the Edinburgh Book Festival team for bringing so much joy, inspiration, and connection to our residents. Your time with us has been truly special! 💖

🕸️ Spooktacular Halloween Fun! 👻

We had a fang-tastic time celebrating Halloween at our home this week! Our residents enjoyed an afternoon full of laughter, music, and plenty of spooky treats.

One of the highlights of the day was a visit from the local children for some trick-or-treating. Our residents loved handing out sweeties and admiring all the amazing costumes.

The room was full of giggles when one little visitor arrived dressed in a blow-up alien costume, making it look like she was being abducted! It had everyone in stitches! 👽

A huge thank you to our wonderful residents, staff, and all the families who joined in the fun — your smiles and creativity made this Halloween one to remember!

🎃✨ Halloween Potion Making Fun! ✨🎃

This week our residents turned into magical potion masters for a spooky Halloween activity! 🧙🧪

With bubbling cauldrons, fizzy elixirs, and a sprinkle of laughter, we mixed up all sorts of mysterious brews — from “Love Potions” to “Elixirs of Eternal Youth”!

The magic was in full flow as everyone enjoyed creating their own colourful concoctions and watching them fizz and bubble away.

It was a wonderful sensory experience and a fantastic way to celebrate the spooky season together! 👻🍂

📚🌊 Bringing the Beach to Our Residents! 🐚☀️

We’ve been lucky to have the Edinburgh Book Festival team visiting us each week for some wonderful storytelling and sensory sessions — and this week’s theme took us straight to the seaside!

Residents enjoyed exploring sand, shells, sea glass, and smooth stones while listening to beautiful poetry about the beach and learning fascinating stories about Edinburgh’s own coastline. 🏖️📖

It was a lovely, relaxing session that sparked wonderful memories of seaside days and brought a touch of sunshine to our home! 🌞💙

A big thank you to the Edinburgh Book Festival team for their time, creativity, and warmth — our residents are already looking forward to next week’s session!

🐶✨ Ziggy Brings the Stardust Sparkle! ✨🐶

Meet Ziggy the therapy dog – named after none other than Ziggy Stardust himself! 💫🎸 With her superstar name and even more superstar cuddles, she brought smiles, tail wags, and lots of love to our home.

Her lovely owner Lynne shared all about Ziggy’s adventures while residents got the chance to pet, cuddle, and chat with our four-legged friend!

There were giggles, wagging tails, and plenty of heart-warming moments 💖

What an unforgettable day we had as our amazing team came together to celebrate Culture Day – a joyful celebration of the stories, songs, dances, and delicious dishes that make us who we are!

Staff proudly shared traditions from their home countries, filling our home with vibrant music, colourful clothing, laughter, and mouth-watering food from all around the world 🌸🍲

From dancing in the lounge to tasting new flavours and hearing beautiful personal stories — the day was a wonderful reminder of the power of community, connection, and culture!

Thank you to our brilliant team for making the day so special — and to our residents for joining in with open hearts and curious minds ✨

🌿✨ Memories of Edinburgh Come Alive at Forthland Lodge! ✨🌿

We were delighted to welcome the Edinburgh Book Festival back for their second visit, bringing storytelling, reminiscence, poetry writing, and sensory materials like leaves and twigs to our residents.

Our first group created this beautiful poem, “Streets We Know,” capturing vivid memories of Edinburgh’s streets, gardens, and markets — a heartfelt stroll down memory lane:

The leaves fall from strong trees
Princes Street Gardens are beautiful
Up, up above is the castle
Clouds are light and dark
Clear skies and cold days

I like listening to the music of the pipe bands
Concerts and dancing in the garden
The china shop in Bread Street, Mathers, Stockbridge Primary
All the boys beautifully dressed

I remember the market with my mother
Everything you could ever dream of
Clothes, shoes, I was always buying too many clothes
People watching in the streets and shops
Do you come here often?

I carried the money, Martha spent it!
My Jacket half-chewed from the smiddy,
but I bought the things I needed.
Edinburgh was very, very good.

We are so grateful for these moments of connection, creativity, and shared history. Stay tuned for more from our next group!

🍁✨ Sensing Autumn with the Edinburgh Book Festival at Forthland Lodge! ✨🍁

With leaves, twigs, and other sensory materials in hand, the Edinburgh Book Festival team inspired our residents to explore the sights and sounds of the season through storytelling and poetry.

This group crafted a heartfelt poem, “Autumn in Edinburgh,” capturing the crisp beauty of the season and the special charm of the city in autumn:

Crisp leaves: green, red,
fiery, yellows and browns
It feels cold, Get on the coats,
hats and scarves
Warm boots and gloves.

We are going on a walk
snow on the tips of the hills,
sun shining on the castle.

The Scots Monument standing out
Edinburgh suits the Autumn.
Princess street is packed
the trees are at their strongest
as the leaves carpet the ground.

🎂🎈 Happy Birthday to our lovely resident Veronica! 🎈🎂

Today we celebrated the wonderful Veronica as she turned another fabulous year young! Surrounded by friends, warm wishes, and plenty of cake — it was a day full of joy, laughter, and love!

Veronica was glowing all afternoon, enjoying every moment of her special day ✨🌸

She even made a birthday wish before blowing out the candles — though she wouldn’t tell us what it was!
