🎥 “They said it was all in my head…”
If you’ve ever felt dismissed when describing your pain, you’re not alone.

Chronic pain affects both body and mind - and recognising the emotional toll is a powerful step toward taking back control. It’s not about choosing emotions over pain, it’s about treating both with the attention they deserve.

💬 “GPs aren’t ignoring the pain – they’re trying to understand the full picture to help you manage it better.”

My name is Dr. Sian Holt and I am a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton.

We are conducting a research study about people’s experiences of using antidepressants to help with their pain.

This involves chatting with us for 45 to 60 minutes, either online or by telephone.

You get a £25 thank-you voucher after the chat.

Here is a link to our study website where you can find out more and where people can take part:

Why do people experience pain so differently?

From biology and psychology to past experiences and social expectations, the way we feel pain is shaped by much more than just injury. The same person can respond completely differently to pain depending on the context. And it's not about toughness or weakness. It’s about how our brains, bodies, and environments interact.

For people living with long-term conditions, understanding this can be a game changer.

That’s why we offer free online Pain Education classes designed to help you better understand your pain and learn tools to manage it more effectively over time.
