The Salisbury Centre

The Salisbury Centre Holistic Education Centre Unifying Mind, Body and Spirit

Since 1973 we have offered educational courses, workshops and therapies for spiritual, emotional and physical well-being. The inter-connectedness of body, mind and spirit, as symbolised in the Celtic Trine, is the foundation of our work and we believe that healings and growth arise naturally from this recognition.

🍂 Autumn Equinox Community Celebration this Sunday 21st September 🍁

As summer draws to an end and many people are coming back to town with stories and adventures, we invite you to gather with us again in our beautiful rooms and garden. There will be yoga and creative workshops, a mini-training for community members interested in firekeeping, jam making, balance play space in the garden, and a fireside sharing of stories, poems, and rituals to celebrate the turn of the seasons.

Check our website for the full agenda and to sign up for specific workshops, or join us at any point for jam making and play and balance games.

Remember to bring fruits, jars, empty bellies, and songs and stories to share! 😊

We're hosting our first Community Connection Feast this coming Monday! 🍆🍅🥗 15th September 18:00 - 21:00

It's like the Community Supper you know and love - just upgraded. ☺ We will now put more emphasis on creating connections between different community members and newcomers, strengthening the web of our community one Feast at a time. 💛🙏💛

Also, we want to bring the spiritual significance of sharing food with others to the fore. It's a real celebration of Life when a group of people gathers at one table! 🥘Hence, changing the name to "Feast."

A new element is that we now encourage you to book through Eventbrite (not requirement, but helpful for the hosts). This way, we are able to get a better gauge of the number of people coming.

Plus, there is the option to donate a few pounds if you can't bring any food but want to contribute to the meal.

Here's the Eventbrite link: https://tinyurl.com/ydhbj47r

We hope to feast and connect with you next Monday!❤️🔥❤️🍯

Our resident Ayana is offering her last Life & Drawing session tomorrow 9:30-12:30. Come and join if you haven't yet, or come again to say goodbye.

This is what Ayana says about her sessions:

'So many of us have absorbed the idea that art “should” look a certain way—that there is somehow a right and a wrong when it comes to creativity. Come and explore tools to start making peace with your inner critic and get in touch with what naturally flows through you if you allow it.'

Tickets by donation. 🙏✨

Time for a new healthy habit? Been waiting for a new month, and beginning of a week to start it?

Great! We have just the right thing for you ☺️

Join Darragh every Monday from 17:30 for an hour-long evening practice of Hatha Yoga. We will open our class with Mantra, then we will move through Asanas (postures). After that we have a Pranayama (breathing practice), which is then followed by a final Shavasana (Co**se Pose) meditation.

See you tomorrow 😉

COMMUNITY SUPPER: CELEBRATING HARVEST SEASON 🍅🥕🧅🥔🍒

Do you remember that third Monday of the month is the Community Supper time at The Salisbury Centre? It's this coming Monday, 18th August! ✨

Since August is such an abundant month when it comes to crops, we invite you to bring something seasonal. It can be from your garden or foraged - but doesn't need to be. Delicious meal, snack, or just chopped up raw veg from the local shop is all welcome!

Just have a think (and/or quick research): What plants are in season right now, and what deliciousness you could make out of them?

Blackberries, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, courgettes, various herbs - these are just a few examples that come to mind. We're looking forward to seeing what you choose. But most importantly, remember to bring your whole self, exactly as you are. 🙏

We want to share this monthly celebration of food and community with YOU. 🫵☀️💛

Just a heads up: while the Centre itself remains fully open and welcoming as usual, our office’s opening times will be reduced this summer to Fridays only, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm due to team transitions.

Behind the scenes, we’re working on some exciting changes! Stay tuned for updates as we grow! 🌱

Setting up for the new exhibition opening tomorrow... Come to the Opening Night, 1st July at 6pm! ✨

The full title of the exhibition is Diasporic Longing and Rhizomatic Belonging: Art, Objects, Memory, and the Q***r Diasporic Experience. Marlene Ayumi Ito, the creator behind it, translates their recent ethnographic research into a visual response, showcasing participants’ art, alongside their own visual response – including collage, installation, film, and object curation.

The opening night tomorrow will include an interactive artwork where visitors are encouraged to add to it – producing a larger community-based piece. While everyone is welcome, it is crucially an ode and love letter to the q***r immigrant and refugee communities in Scotland who have made me feel at home. 🏡

Come! More details here: https://tinyurl.com/3mha4duh

Melissa Febos in the morning, my soul is happy. Entering the final pages of The Dry Season and resonating hard. A deep dive into abandoning the self in relationship and how abstinence can be “a form of self-love, or redefinition.” As I read, I feel myself drawing closer to my writing subjects, my soul’s work, and feel very grateful for this memoir’s reach. Tomorrow is week 6 of the Write Your Self course and we’re looking at how we can begin to find the stories we want to tell. One of the ways we do this is by looking to a piece of writing we are particularly drawn to, that speaks to and moves us. Melissa Febos definitely hits this note for me. The next run of Write Yourself starts September 4th in person and September 8th online. Booking link at www.sustenancecounselling.com/therapeutic-writing-courses and more here soon!
