If you are interested in the connection between mind and body, and are looking for some gentle, therapeutic bodywork that acts not only on the physical body, but also the psychological and emotional aspects of being, then you’ve come to the right place.

My main Shiatsu clinic is based at Santosa on Albert Street in Leith, Edinburgh and I run 'Shiatsu Connects Self-Care in Difficult Times with

Shiatsu' workshops online and in person, and retreats across Central Scotland.

About me and my practice:
I am passionate about working with people from all backgrounds, supporting them to be healthy and well in all areas of their lives: work, family and relationships. Often these occur due to present or past life difficulties or big changes within relationships, education, career, or physical health. Shiatsu can help with the physical and emotional aspects of these situations. Clients come to see me as they move through life events: changes in career or relationships, pregnancy, post-pregnancy, peri-menopause, and entering the menopause and middle years. I support people when they are dealing with the symptoms of illnesses and coming to terms with chronic health conditions, including symptoms of long Covid. Many people come regularly as part of their self-care routine in order to maintain their quality of life. Shiatsu Connects: treatments at Santosa Wellness Centre, Leith, Edinburgh:
I am offering in-person Shiatsu Sessions at Santosa again, with all our Covid Safe protocols in place. Email me if you would like to book an appointment, or call me if you would like to chat about your treatment. If you would like more information about my Covid protocol, drop me a line and I will send you the documents. Sign up to my Shiatsu Connects newsletter to receive up-dates as they happen. Online Self-Shiatsu during Covid-19:
I am running regular, online Shiatsu Connects workshops on Tuesdays 4pm and Thursdays 6pm. We cover self-shiatsu techniques, acupressure points to support a wide range of health and well-being issues, some movement and meditation, and some exercises to regulate the nervous system. These are drop- in sessions and all are welcome. Suitable for beginners, and all physical abilities. Drop me a line if you have any questions before you attend

About me
I discovered Shiatsu for myself 20 years ago when I experienced ‘burnout’ within a stressful work environment. Shiatsu, with its emphasis on compassionate mindful touch, helped me deal with the physical & emotional aspects of stress and helped stabilise my body and mind. Regular treatments helped to connect me to what I truly wanted out of life. It gave me the resilience to make big changes and eventually I moved to Scotland where I lived on Holy Isle for four years, a small island I had falling in love with, situated next to Arran. Whilst here, I completed my three year training as a Shiatsu Practitioner. I moved to Edinburgh in 2014. I have trained with Glasgow School of Shiatsu and the Mindfulness Association. I have a Post Grad Certificate in Emotional Education. I am a Registered Member of the Shiatsu Society (MRSS). Your treatment
Finding the right therapist for you, someone that you feel comfortable with,
is important. So please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns, and we can discuss what you need, your particular circumstance and symptoms. Shiatsu is performed on a futon or a massage table, fully-clothed. Please let me know if you have any mobility issues. You are fully clothed during your treatment. Bring (or wear) comfortable, loose fitting clothing and preferably socks. Jogging bottoms and a t-shirt are ideal.

Shiatsu is a hands-on Japanese touch therapy (acupressure massage) which can support you to deal with the stresses and strains, and aches and pains that may occur in every day life. It can help with physical and emotional issues which may appear in the body as pain or illness. It can also help to maintain good health and well-being in a proactive, preventative way. Shiatsu Connects Self-Care in Difficult Times -workshops
As well as offering one-to-one private sessions, I also run group sessions in various community and business settings across Edinburgh and Central Scotland. My aim is to empower people to help themselves in times of difficulty and challenge.

During the workshops, I introduce the group to self-shiatsu techniques, acupressure points, self-compassion mindfulness meditations and some simple tension releases exercises to use in times of need to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, tension. I offer these sessions in corporate and community settings and to the general public. Contact me you want to know more how you can join one of these workshops or host one in your community group,

Healthy Working Lives. I have worked with a number of organisations in Edinburgh to run sessions for staff teams as part of their Mental Health and Well-Being commitment. If you are interested in hosting one of these workshops within your work environment, please feel free to pass my details on to the relevant staff member, and I can arrange to come in for a chat, and see how we may tailor the workshop to the needs of your organisation. Shiatsu Connects - Community Shiatsu. I have a background in Mental Health Social Care, and Youth & Community Development. I am a qualified mindfulness facilitator (Mindfulness Association). As well as 1:1 Shiatsu treatments, I am developing a Social Enterprise, 'Shiatsu Connects', aiming to provide affordable, accessible Shiatsu to diverse groups in the community. I offer on-site Shiatsu wellbeing workshops for charities, community groups and corporate staff teams in Edinburgh and across Scotland. The workshop can tailored to the needs of the group, from a regular 1 hour wellbeing sessions, to short / all day workshops. These can include on-site seated, one-to-one Shiatsu sessions, and group sessions that give participants the chance to learn simple Self-Shiatsu exercises; EFT tapping and acupressure techniques as well as mindfulness meditation.

Santosa has been my Shiatsu home for the past 9 years. We've built a beautiful community between us. I'll be offering Shiatsu as usual until the end of July.
And I'll be in touch when I've found a new Shiatsu home.
Come down to Santosa on Saturday to celebrate all that Santosa has been over the past nine years.

Why I've been quiet at Shiatsu Connects this year? Because I've been with this lovely lot training to deliver Anytime Anywhere Meditation in diverse communities. It weaves in beautifully with Shiatsu tips and tools for self-care in challenging times. Watch this space.

"In our fast-paced lives, we often get caught in stories about who we think we are—old narratives of fear, limitation, or self-doubt. But beneath those stories is something more alive, more tender, more present. The truth of who you are isn't fixed in a story; it’s the aliveness in your senses, the tenderness in your heart, and the awareness that is right now reading these words.Take a moment to pause. Breathe. Feel. Let yourself rest in the space of being, beyond any story."

My style of Shiatsu works within the Five Element system. Each element (Fire, Wood, Earth, Metal and Water) all have corresponding body parts, emotions, psychological functions, impetus, season's of the year, food and nutrition, and our connection to the spiritual, energetic world.

Shiatsu, acupressure and movement, can help create balance and flow, so one element is not having to work extra hard, or becomes depleted, in order to support you.

This framework guides me through my own life and helps me to feel connected, mind and body, to the natural world we live within.

"Releasing any tension and bringing calm to your body is the first step in restoring wellness. You can’t heal your body if you don’t pay attention to it. Bringing your mind home to your body, you become established in the here and the now. You have a chance to be aware, without judgment, of any pain, tension, or suffering in your body. This is the beginning of healing."

The Benefits of Shiatsu

People routinely ask us what kind of benefits our art provides. We often get a little tongue tied for two important reasons:

One, there are so many benefits, it's difficult to know where to start and on which level to comment (Physical? Emotional? Spiritual?)

Two, as soon as we mention one thing, we think of another and another, and then it seems as though we are self aggrandising.

In truth, Shiatsu knows no limits. It will affect each individual in a particular way (individually!) based not only on their current state and constitution, but also on the particular practitioner involved and the energy of that specific moment in time.

How do we solve this riddle?

Everyone does it in their own way, of course.

Small pictograms like this can help initiate a many-sided discussion, at least.

Please make use of all the ESF graphics, which are available in a handy pack the moment you sign up for the newsletter on the website: https://europeanshiatsufederation.eu/

Sunday Self-Care. One of my favourite Sunday things to do is stroll around an art gallery. And in Edinburgh, we are so fortunate to have so many beautiful spaces to visit.

"According to a recent study, looking at art can light up the pleasure centre in the brain and release dopamine, the feel-good chemical – which is why visiting a gallery can be a valuable act of self-care, especially in the cold, dark winter! months"

Humans often find catharsis through creating art, while looking at paintings and sculptures can light up the pleasure centre in the brain and release dopamine
