The eye of the storm!

When there is chaos going on around us, we can still find space somewhere (even for a few moments) to pause, settle the mind and choose where to focus our energy.

First week back and with everything going on, a lot people are either over thinking, struggling to switch off, sleep, anxious or are lethargic, unmotivated, heavy, sluggish, un-stimulated etc.

Below are some tips to balance out if you feel in either of these modes.
Balancing over active minds and anxiety:
-Have consistent waking and bed times.
-Get as much routine into your day as possible.
-Get into nature or spacious environments.
-Eat seasonal fruits & veg.
-Avoid or limit alcohol, stimulants.
-Do bodyweight training, strength exercises, yoga & meditation.

Balancing lethargy and lack of motivation:
-Start your day with exercise or a walk outside.
-Have a cold shower to stimulate body & mind.
-Use strong, intensive breathing exercises (Wim Hof method, yoga breath of fire).
-Eat lighter foods, mainly veg (cooked) and not too much heavy protein or fats.
-Do cardio exercises.

Remember that we may not be able to control the external world but we can control our body, mind and energy levels. It's not easy under some of these challenges but a bit of discipline self compassion and you can.

As it is I think it's important to remember that stress in the right dose and managed correctly is key fuel for a happy and productive life.
can focus our minds on something and give us energy to do this. It's not about eliminating stress out of our lives' but understanding how to manage and use it.

The key is not to keep fueling ourselves with stress all day, we have to look at how we get healthy dopamine kicks in through pleasure, enjoyment, mini achievements. How we take ourselves into moments of recovery and connect with others to stimulate oxytocin, get some exercise, fresh air, listen to good music and eat some good food to release serotonin and endorphins. All of this helps buffer out the stress hormones and activate other areas of the brain to keep you in a healthy state of 'acute' stress.

If you feel fatigued, overwhelmed, irritable, tense, over thinking, negative thoughts, sad, anxious etc. Try doing some of the things I've mentioned above to balance things out.
