Edinburgh Headway Group

Edinburgh Headway Group Supporting adults with acquired brain injuries and their families for over 30 years. http://www.edin SC006528

We provide high quality person-centred rehabilitation services which support both adults with brain injuries and their carers. We know that brain injury can affect personalities as well as a person’s cognitive and physical abilities. Brain injury affects who we are - the way we think, act and feel.A brain injury can have a life changing effect on the individual, their families and carers. Some people will need to deal with significant and on-going difficulties with their memory, concentration, communication, emotions, behaviour, change of personalities as well as physical disability. These individuals may also face barriers when trying to re-enter the workplace and the wider community. We believe that everyone has something to contribute within Edinburgh Headway Group and the wider community – that every person with a brain injury should be valued, respected and deserves every opportunity to live a full and active life. New to Edinburgh! An Initiative for Community Wellbeing 🌟 🤝

A newly installed Buddi Bench is now placed next to Wellington Statue on Princes Street in Edinburgh City Centre!

The bench invites adults to sit, pause and have a short friendly conversation with a kind stranger if they wish. People can share a chat, a laugh, or simply feel a little less alone in our busy city ❤️

We are very grateful to the Fletchers Foundation for their generous grant support for our Independent Living Skills.

As part of our Independent Living Skills our members take part in our daily cookery programme, creating simple nutritious meals in a group setting in our accessible kitchen. 🧑‍🍳🍳

This activity is a favourite for our members and the results are simply delicious 😋😋

Phelim and Chris recently attended The Hospital Saturday Fund grant ceremony at Edinburgh University.

The generous grant for our charity will help us to maintain our walking group and day trips for the year ahead. These events are always well attended and a highlight for our members.🚶‍♀️

The Saturday Hospital Fund awarded a grand total of £137,000 to 27 Scottish Charities on the night.

Grants were awarded on the night by SHF CEO Paul Jackson and Scottish Rugby’s Gavin Hastings.

This month, we had the opportunity to visit our artwork at Summerhall’s “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” exhibition, an inspiring annual showcase featuring work by people with lived experience of mental health issues. 🧠❤️

This year’s exhibition followed the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival theme “Comfort and Disturb”, inspired by César A. Cruz’s idea that “art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

For our contribution, each member created two self-portraits - one reflecting a good mental health day and one capturing a difficult day.

We were proud to be part of this year’s exhibition alongside 394 exhibitors, and delighted to have seen our creations on display. 🖼️✨🎨

Our first-ever Open Day at EHG was a great success! 🎉

On the 7th of November, we opened our doors to welcome visitors and showcase the work we do here at EHG.

Throughout the day, visitors took part in mindful art in the sensory room, empathy exercises, cognitive activities, and a presentation on brain injury. 🧠

A big thank you to our members who created beautiful door signs for the event, and our volunteers who supported throughout - including helping prepare some delicious cookies in our cooking group.

Thank you to Thompsons Solicitors for sponsoring the day, providing goodie bags, and a lovely lunch for everyone. 💙
