Porteous Family Funeral Directors was established by Mark Porteous. Since opening his first office in Juniper Green in 2006, the company’s reputation has grown through personal recommendation and we now also operate from a number of additional offices throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. There are now two generations of the Porteous family in the company. Mark, his wife Yvonne and son Grant work with a dedicated team of staff, who between them have many years’ experience within the funeral profession. They are all committed to offering families the best possible service and take seriously their responsibilities of caring and helping families at a difficult time. Porteous Family Funeral Directors is a member of SAIF (National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors) and abide strictly by their Code of Practice. This gives our families reassurance that our standards of conduct are regulated and regularly monitored. Copies of the Code of Practice can be supplied in any branch. Porteous Family Funeral Directors is an appointed representative of Golden Charter Limited trading as Golden Charter Funeral Plans which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN:965279).

The boss turns 60!

Wishing managing director Mark a very happy 60th birthday today. Mark started his funeral journey aged 23 and has become a highly respected figure in the funeral industry amongst peers and colleagues. Mark has looked after many families over the years, and we are sure everyone from clients, staff and friends wish him all the best.

Peacefully, after a short illness at the Marie Curie Hospice on 25th December 2025, Gary, loving husband of Margaret, much loved dad of Cameron, beloved son of May and the late Pat, loved brother of Debbie, dear son in law of Pam and Alex and cherished uncle of Jenna and Sophie.

Gary was a good friend to many and will be forever in our hearts.

Chris Bell was taken from us on 27th of November 2025 in the comfort of his own home at the age of 38. He was a devoted husband and soul mate to his wife Zara Robinson-Bell. A beloved son to Grace and the late James Bell. An incredibly supportive brother to his sister Jacqueline, adored wholeheartedly by his niece Emilia. And a much loved son-in-law to Mariam and Ernest.

Chris was loved by many, and gave his heart to all. He has left an enormous void for everyone that knew him, and will be forever missed.
