We are vaccinating the "priority groups" of patients as fast as the vaccine supply allows. We are currently vaccinating group 6 and next week (week commencing March 15) will extend into group 7, which is patients aged 60 years and over.

Appointment letters are being distributed by a central system to patients across Scotland. We understand there has been a delay in sending out some appointment letters this week (March 12). This should be resolved very quickly and the letters are expected to arrive by this weekend. However, if you are over 60 and have not received an appointment letter by Monday (March 15), please call the national helpline on 0800 030 8013.

We have been advised that we can now ease our restrictions on the type of patients that we are treating in our practice.

Following advice from the Government and regulatory body (HCPC) our professional body, The College of Podiatry, has advised that we may now start to treat patients who fall into the green category of “mild conditions”.

However this does not mean that we are returning to normal.

Firstly we must still ensure that we give priority to treating our patients who are classed as Red & Amber as they are at a greater risk of critical limb issues and may be in pain. Our Green patients should be seen only if self care or advice will not be suitable.

The welfare of our patients is a priority to us and we are ensuring that we have the appropriate measures in place for your safety and ours.

We will be in touch with all of our cancelled patients as soon we can, we are booking a week ahead to allow maximum flexibility in case we become symptomatic or if there is another tightening of restrictions.

If you have a problem before you hear from us then please contact us on 0131 2258080

Thank you for your support during this time.

Coronavirus update

Our professional body The College of Podiatry has provided updated guidelines to lift some of our previous restrictions.

We are now able to treat both high & moderate risk patients and those that are currently experiencing pain. We need to triage each patient therefore if you feel you need assistance, please get in touch and we will advise further.

We will be available to contact by telephone on the usual number 0131 2258080.

If an appointment is deemed appropriate further details including our increased PPE, and what will happen when you attend your appointment will be explained when an appointment is given.

In light of the government announcement, and in line with our governing bodies advice, we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily close the clinic for all routine treatments.

I am in the process of contacting all my patients booked in for the next few weeks.

I can still see emergency cases in a home visit setting, these will be triaged via phone before a slot can be booked. This is to avoid any patient having to access already stretched hospital or GP services.

Emergency cases include the following.

Swelling
Active wound
Active Infection
At risk of wound
At risk of infection

To book an appointment, or if you are unsure if your situation is an emergency, please contact me via the Facebook messenger app or email at mckerrowpodiatry@outlook.com

The clinic will reopen when we are told it is safe to do so.

I appreciate your support and we hope to see you all back in clinic safe and well soon.
