Why commit to a full 12 weeks of yoga?

It provides the right amount of time to see tangible progress in your flexibility, focus, and overall well-being.

Neuroscience supports this timeframe:

The brain needs consistent reinforcement to rewire patterns.

Repeated action over 12 weeks strengthens this identity loop:

Cue → Routine → Reward → Identity reinforcement

Studies show it takes 66 days on average to form a solid habit.

12 weeks = ~84 days, giving ample time to reinforce, repeat, and internalise the behaviour.

After ~8–12 weeks of regular practice, neural pathways (especially around movement, mindfulness, and regulation) become more stable.

✨My Superpower is My Sobriety✨

September is Recovery Awareness Month, I’m choosing to share my story to help remove the stigma. In a few weeks, I celebrate 24 years of sobriety.

I am a big believer in the 12-step model. It is the foundation of my sobriety and a daily practice that, after over two decades, is just part of how I think. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. I continue to practice the steps, continue to be humbled, and continue to learn more about myself. I make mistakes and have learned how to amend them. At 53 I am still learning and growing.

My recovery toolkit also includes yoga and meditation (beautifully aligning with Step 11), but they are supporting players to my core foundation. This journey has given me my greatest superpower: stability and the ability to be of service, and live a full life. I weave these tools into my teaching as a gift to my students.

If you are struggling, please hear me: A new way of life is there waiting for you. It is possible to live fully and happily. Please seek help. You won’t regret it.

The AUTUMN term is now up for booking!

BEGINNERS YOGA at the Yoga Room starts on Tuesday 30th September 2025 at 6:00–7:00pm or Sunday 5th October 2025 at 5:30–6:30pm.

Learn tools to regulate your nervous system through movement, breathwork, meditation, and relaxation.

Come and practice at the Edinburgh Yoga Room, a boutique studio located in the heart of Edinburgh. The studio is known for creating a warm and inclusive environment, allowing for more individual guidance so you can progress safely at your own pace.

The 2025 Beginners Course runs for 12 weeks, with each class lasting approximately 1 hour.

As we move into the last couple of weeks before the end of term (and a little holiday pause 🌿), we’re looking forward to welcoming you on the mat here at our boutique studio in the heart of the city.

At The Yoga Room — right in the centre of Edinburgh on Forth Street. With easy tram & bus access, free evening and early morning parking nearby, and plenty of bike spots, it couldn’t be easier to get to us.

Designed to help children aged 3-8 flourish.

Help your child navigate their emotions with confidence. Our Buzzy Bees Yoga class provides a safe and nurturing space for kids to learn how to:

Ahimsa (Non-Violence) | The Radical Power of Kindness

To embrace ALL with compassion in every moment—this is the essence of true practice. Live this fully, and nothing more is needed. When kindness guides our words, thoughts, and actions, even the ordinary becomes sacred.

Yet kindness shouldn’t feel radical. In a world that often defaults to judgment, division, or indifference, it does. So pause and ask: Are my words and thoughts truly kind? Can I soften—release condemnation, loosen judgment, let go of hostility?

Here’s a practice so simple it’s revolutionary: Meet strangers with a smile. Offer a “HELLO”… or a genuine compliment. These small acts are like stones dropped into water—ripples you may never see, but they travel far. Someone’s heaviness may lift because of you. A lonely heart may feel seen.

This comes naturally to me as a West Coaster from the states and having a dad that was a hippie 😊—greeting strangers, sharing warmth—it’s effortless kindness that reminds me we’re all connected. In more reserved cultures, it might feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable at first. That’s what makes it so special! Give it a chance - your heart will thank you.
