Tess Post - from the art room
Still exploring my parts through art …
This piece came from thinking about that mouth craving—the pull towards something comforting when my system feels restricted.
Living with IBS (and being gluten free, and dairy free) means there are a lot of “no” foods. And I’m beginning to see that there’s a part of me that reaches for chocolate not just out of habit, but because it offers something reliable…, velvety, safe.
In Internal Family Systems, this isn’t something to fight. It’s something to get curious about.
So I tried this:
“I see you trying to give me something delicious when so much has been taken away. Thank you for looking out for my pleasure.”
There’s something quite tender in that shift—from restriction to understanding.
And maybe the craving isn’t the problem…
Maybe it’s a part asking to be heard 🍫
