My name is Marcela and I'm a mum of three, Doula, Birth Educator, Active Birth Teacher and Pregnancy and Postnatal yoga teacher based in Edinburgh. Mama gives light was created after the birth of my first baby. After a long career in environment and sustainability, I decided to retrain as a doula and as a yoga teacher. I strongly believe that the way in which babies are born has a huge impact on t

heir future life, and the life of our planet as a whole. A positive and calm birth is what I wish for all my clients and students.I support women and share their journeys towards a positive pregnancy and birth experience, where they can feel continuously supported, explore the amazing benefits of yoga, and of living a balanced, healthy and sustainable lifestyle during and after pregnancy. This is a space to support mums and their partners during their pregnancy and birth journey.I am here for you: As your doula, by connecting with you, listening to you and helping you find what you consider the best decisions for you and for your family. As your yoga teacher, by practising with you and helping you discover and enjoy the countless benefits that it will bring to your mind and body during, after and beyond pregnancy. I currently offer Doula support packages, private and one to one pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes.

Yesterday marked the end of this year's Baby Loss Awareness week. In our Pregnancy Yoga class we honoured and remembered all those beautiful babies who have left us way too soon.

We are so sorry to hear this news from Michel Odent's family.

"It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr Michel Odent announce his death at the age of 95. Dr Odent was born July 7, 1930, in Bresles, France. He died peacefully in London, England, on August 19, 2025 following a brief illness.

Dr Odent trained as a general surgeon in Paris, and advocated for the demedicalisation of birth whilst in charge of Pithiviers Hospital. In later life, he founded the Primal Health Research Centre in London, and published extensively on topics related to childbirth and early breastfeeding.

He is survived by many loved ones, including his partner Liliana, and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to La Leche League. Dr Odent will be cremated in a private family service with a public memorial to follow in several weeks."

It was with this wonderful man, Dr. Michel Odent that I started this journey of becoming a Doula almost a decade ago.

It was your wisdom that initiated my training. I will never forget my Paramana Doula training with you and Liliana guiding me and supporting me with kindness, wisdom and encouragement.

Thank you for tirelessly working to support mothers, babies, families, doctors, midwives and doulas to trust the birth process.

What a blessing it was to study with you and to learn so much from you.

Today marks the end of World Breastfeeding Week.

Here's to you mamas who have breastfed for 5 minutes or for 5 years. To you mamas who chose that breastfeeding was just not for you and were stigmatised for it.

To you mamas who have tried tirelessly to practise extended breastfeeding against unwelcoming comments from an intrusive mother in law telling you that 'you don't have enough milk, give them a bottle!' or who question 'how long is this child going to breastfeed?'.

Every breastfeeding journey is different. As different as every mother and her child. And anyone who doesn't approve of your choices, can:
Mind their own f@ckng t**s! 🍈🍈
