🔥✨ The miracle cure for pain ✨🔥 ~ does even exist and would it serve you ? 🤔
First of all, pain is one of the strongest and loudest warning signals from your body announcing something definitely needs your attention. Take painkillers alone and you just cut of the wire to the flashing light, having resolved nothing 🔕
Pain can become a habit too, an adaptation, a way that the nervous system becomes and remains hypersensitive expecting a threat (like an injury, an environmental stressor etc ).
Tension can become chronic as a way to brace against the pain , real or expected. It’s a way for your body to say ‘I do not feel safe, I expect pain’ .
Emotional pain can also be expressed in the physical, as your body is really your subconscious mind.
… And it would be rude, even cruel to remove the tension all at once, because , for many , your nervous system will have no idea what to do with that, being completely and suddenly stripped of from it’s comfort pattern. Yes, even if it takes energy and hurts, your body might still believe that tension and contracting keeps it safe on some level, safe from more pain .
It’s a viscous circle though, because in actual fact more tension creates more pain ⭕️
Therefore, after a massage session (especially if you’ve been in pain for months or years) your body will likely experience a release, followed by aches (similar to the post/workout aches) , then it will likely reverse to habitual tension (not as bad as before but still tension).
What we want to do in the therapeutic alliance between me ,as the massage therapist, and you ,as the client, is to give enough time to undo the tension pattern in a gradual, sustainable way that your nervous system can accept and work with. We are training you body to remember that being free of tension is safe !
Think of each massage session as one portion or one dose in that process. No therapist had a magic wond to remove your pain in one session, and even if we did it would possibly be detrimental because it doesn’t give your system the time to adjust to that tension-free reality you so desire. We need your mind too come on board, and that take a little time .
A set of 5-6 sessions, at the beginning closer together, then more spread out, followed by monthly maintenance is my approach to chronic pain , and what I have seen works really well for clients . 💆♀️ 💆♂️ 💆
