♥️Supporting organisations

♥️To support leaders

♥️To support their teams

One interaction at a time.

It's not about getting it perfectly right.

It's about having a framework to increase confidence in responding to employees who are in distress or who need extra support.

This guide offers a framework that all managers in your organisation can use.

Imagine having that clarity and universal language.

If we feel heard and understood, it means everything, especially when we feel vulnerable.

Everything happens for a reason...

Does everyone agree?

This is an interesting one.

I think it's often said with the very best of intentions but it is sometimes experienced as dismissive or invalidating.

Sometimes people just need to hear you say "this is sh*t for you".

We automatically want to ease pain but in the process we can increase it.

I try to catch myself saying this and similar statements. Sometimes people seek comfort in it, but we can't assume this.

PS. l've got a Toolkit 🧰 for managers to help them help emplovees in distress.

It's designed to be calm, practical and very usable for real managers.

Organisational licences are also available.

"Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind"

(Brené Brown)

Leadership requires transparency, courage and honesty. The ability to have difficult conversations in compassionate ways.

By avoiding the tricky parts, we store up problems in the future.

We can hold compassion and honesty together.

🎶 You say it best when you say nothing at all 🎶
Actually, when it comes to managers and employees in distress, I fundamentally disagree.

But in real life, I know for certain managers sometimes want to help, but they are fearful of 'saying the wrong thing', so they say nothing at all.

If we are ignored or we feel unseen when we are distressed, these feelings can be exacerbated.

So..... I wrote a little guide. I quietly launched it here last week and it is already proving popular. I have put it on my website now to reach as many manager and organisations as I can.

I think this is why some leaders feel paralysed and fearful about supporting employees.

The truth is none of us have all the answers.

It is more important to:
- listen
- be there
- be human
- say you don't know what to say, instead of being afraid to ask how they are doing

What's worse is:
- silence
- feeling forgotten
- distress being ignored

We are not asking for perfection.

Do you REALLY prioritise your employee's mental health? Or do you constantly try to gauge what might be what they need?

What ACTUALLY makes a difference to employee's working lives each day?

A lot of wellbeing initiatives are only impactful in that moment, or perhaps there is a buzz for a few days. And the budget is probably blown.

What happens in your organisation when someone confides in their line manager or leader about their mental health?

I have worked with leaders who feel anxious about supporting employees with mental health difficulties.

What do I say?
What do I do?
What if they tell me something and I don't know what to do?
What is my role, and what isn't?

Based on these questions over the years, I have produced a guide called:

'When Someone At Work Isn't OK - A Calm, Practical Guide for Managers'

It is not rocket science, but it does breed compassion and calm - exactly what is required when someone is in need of our care.

There are individual manager licences or organisational licence options available.

❤️ When someone confides in us, or trusts us with their vulnerability, it is our duty to respond in a way that supports them.

Take a look 👀

☕️It works out at around the the price of a coffee per employee, to support your leaders to support their teams.
