Combining Creativity and Well Being
The Mission Hall Studio is available for workshops, meetings, rehearsals and one to one work that relates to creativity and/or well-being. Artist Jenny Smith works from her studio here and runs Moon Circles, Dream groups and Creative Workshops in the space herself . Jenny welcomes enquires about using either or both of the spaces from other practioners, whose work compliments this, relating to either creativity, spirituality, bodywork and/or well-being.
The Mission Hall was built in 1896 on the site of a former Coachouse and Stable. When Leith was still a working port it was a non – denominational gathering place for both the local community and those going to, or returning from sea. It was owned by the church until 1994 when it was purchased by Alex Durkin who did very little to the fabric of the building and rented it out as a music studio, and paint store amongst other things. In 2015 artist Jenny Smith purchased it to use as her studio. During the renovations in 2018, she upgraded the building and extended the mezzanine upstairs to create two beautiful new, light filled spaces.
During the process of renovation it became apparent that with such a beautiful, still energy and great light and acoustics, that as well as being used as Jenny’s Studio, the building was calling to once again become a space for community: connecting back to it’s origins, in a new way.
