Sgurr Ghiubhsachain and Sgorr Craobh a Chaorainn 24-07-25 - These 2 long named Corbetts are just South of Glenfinnan. Sgurr Ghiubhsachain is very prominent looking down Loch Shiel from the famous monument which marks the 1745 Jacobite rising. We were joined today by Mark a friend from TMRT who is also doing the Corbetts. The forecast was pretty good giving a high chance of sun but it didn't quite turn out like that with cloud and light rain on a off through the day. Started near Callop off A830 and walked along a landrover track to Guesachan , the ascent from there is rough/rocky, steep and pathless. No view from the first summit and we descended through steep ground and slabs to the col. Mark gave his drone an airing which gave Buster something to think about !! From the col over the next Corbett which was clear and back to the car. A good tough day out !!

Carn an t-Sagairt Mor and Carn a Choire Bhoidheach 09-07-25 - A day in on the White Mounth from Auchallater near Braemar. Was joined today by Colin MacDougall a friend from TMRT and with the weather best in the East opted for these hills as we both hadn't been up them for a wee while. A warm sunny morning saw us head up the very good stalkers path to Sagairt Mor. Wreckage from an RAF Canberra which crashed in 1956 is scattered near the summit and on the NE side of the hill with large pieces still evident today. We headed across to Carn a Choire Bhoidheach with great views to the Cairngorms and the East Highlands and returned over Sagairt Beag (A new Munro top for Colin). We did have a rain shower as we descended but cleared up soon after. A good day out and was pretty quiet for a nice summers day.

Driesh and Hill of Strone 23-06-25 - A brilliant Angus loop from Glen Prosen. A 25 min drive to the start meant we could have a longer lie in (instead of the usual 3 hr drive). Started at the main road end walking past The new "Bothy Distillery". The access tracks around the Glen are great and we headed up Driesh via the track up the Shank. Descended down to the Sneck of Farchal and up to the summit of Hill of Strone. The hill is 850m and has a reascent 140m so just a 10m contour short of a Corbett. Returned to Glen Prosen down the overgrown hill track and the very good forestry track. Weather was a bit blustery but a really good day to be out in the hills.

Creag Rainich 10-06-25 - A trip to the Western Fannichs to do this Corbett. I took a notion to do this the day before that despite the long long drive it had to be done. Parked up near Loch a Bhraoin on the A832 where there is a parking area for around 12 cars. Set off along the loch side and met a few folk who were biking in to do some of the Fisherfield group , this track makes it a reasonable option. Brilliant views from the summit out to Torridon , Fisherfield and An Teallach. Returned the same way and to be honest not too boggy. Buster had a swim in the loch and walked out with views to the Fannichs and Beinn Dearg. Hat's off to Callum Horne from TMR who guessed where I was from a photo I sent !!

Craig Maskeldie / Inchgrundle (Loch Lee) 2-6-25- I have been up and around here many times over the years but had been a long time since I had been round the whole circuit. It used to be a staple route on the old Angus Glens Walking festival and I still think it's one of the finest most interesting hill walks in the East Highlands. Parked up at Invermark car park and headed along Loch Lee crossing the water of Lee to get to the "Falls of Unich". From there a broken path climbs up the narrowing gorge where you get a glimpse of the next waterfall "Falls of Damff". The footbridge crosses the river a bit further on and a faint path winds uphill to a col to the North of Cairn Lick. I opted for a diversion out to Craig Maskeldie which is a prominent rocky peak above the Glen. It's pretty much boggy and pathless but the view from the top was brilliant looking to Loch Lee , Mt Keen and Lochnagar. Descended back down the shank of Inchgrundle and back to the car. It was a decent day but didn't see any snakes in the usual spots although there was one near the car park that had been run over.

Creag Mhor and Beinn Sheasgarnaich 19-05-25 - This was in no way the plan for today and we were heading to Glencoe to climb Bidean. However at 4am Janey (who hadn't managed to get any sleep) said I'd have to go alone and do something else (i.e hills that she has already done before). These 2 hills always spring to mind as Buster hadn't done them and I hadn't been up x4 , however it's a long hard day and I always find an excuse not to do. With this in mind I decided today was the day as it was great weather and the going underfoot would be as dry as it could ever be. Early start and headed up Creag Mhor first. Had to cross a 6ft stile in a deer fence (without dog access) , which I had to climb carrying a 25kg Retriever. I will say this is an accident waiting to happen and the estate needs to put in a simple dog flap. A decent path gets you up and Buster managed to find some treacle like mud to stand in. A low col separates the 2 Munros and it takes a bit of effort to get to Sheasgarnaich. Descended back to Glen Lochay via the bog route which was thankfully very dry. A 9 hour day in total and hills which take a bit of effort...As Gordon Grant from Tayside MRT says these hills are "A power drain". However good views from the tops and on a day like this who can complain !

Beinn Fhionnlaidh 11-05-25 - A bit of a drive for a Sunday and another new Munro for Janey and Buster. With the brilliant weather continuing opted for a hill in the West. I'd been up this hill a few times before both from Glen Etive and Glen Creran but today for the Glen Etive approach. Superb views all round with the ascent being very dry. A point of note , Glen Etive was completely rammed with people camping and to add to the congestion there was an international car rally (over 100 vehicles) going up and down the Glen. It is great that people are enjoying Scotland but our roads , services and general infrastructure are needing major investment. Need to think of ways to generate revenue !!

Glas Tulaichean 6-5-25 - A shortish day from the Dalmunzie hotel. A sunny day with myself , GP and Buster. Very little water in the river made the track crossings easy on a day like this. Apart from a herd of deer very little wildlife to see. Descended SW to the ridge into Gleann Taitnaech. A 5 hr round trip.

Mayar 1-5-25 - First hill for a week or 2 and hadn't been up here this year (so far) . We usually do Driesh from Prosen now and Mayar via Coire fee so just the single Munro today. A nice bright day and a chance to try out my new Asolo boots. Met IFMGA guide Sandy Allan and his wife who were out on the hill and chatted until we were to descend via the Kilbo path. They were heading on to Driesh which is a slightly easier hill to climb than Sandy's normal Himalayan and Alpine routes.

Beinn a Chuallaich 12-4-25 - We have had an amazing spell of weather and with it changing had to make the most of it. This Corbett is just to North of Kinloch Rannoch with a reasonably quick although pathless ascent from the B847 road. Great views along Loch Rannoch towards Ben Alder and the nearby Schiehallion and Carn Mairg range. When I got home I had a look at some photos I took on my last visit which was over 30 years ago. Was a similar sunny day way back then with my old retriever Sam looking equally as happy !!

Ruadh-stac Beag 05-04-25 - Day 2 of a trip staying at Kinlochewe and another stunning day in Torridon. This Corbett is part of the massive Beinn Eighe range sitting to the NE of Spidean Coire nan Clach. The normal approach is from the visitor centre on the near Kinlochewe and can be combined as a big day with the neighbouring Corbett Meall a Ghiuthais (which we had already done previously). A great stalkers path winds itself up from the car park to around 400m where Janey opted to head down. Me and Buster headed up rough pathless ground to near the col with the main Beinn Eighe ridge. From there the way to the summit via the South is steep , loose and rocky at the top but really is only viable way up. It's a kind of strange place to be almost a rocky moonscape tabletop with only some greenery. Descent the same way and met Janey who had spent some time at the visitor centre.

Sgorr Ruadh 04-04-25 - The first of a couple of days up in the Torridon area. We were up here 2 years ago (almost to the day) but that day the weather was terrible and we just did neighbouring Beinn Liath Mhor. With the steady high pressure system in charge it gave us a chance to grab Sgorr Ruadh. It was a long drive but we were staying overnight which made it easier. Headed up past Achnashellach station climbing up a very good stalkers path. The path spilts higher up and there is a river crossing taking us up to Sgorr Ruadh. The Mainnrichean Buttress of Fuar Tholl is an ever present sight on the way up. We left the stalkers path then headed North across rough ground climbing steeply up to the summit. The views from any of these mountains are amazing looking towards Skye and Torridon and worth keeping for a good day , we did stay at the top for a while. Another Munro for Janey and Buster and a x4 for Mike..
