This week we were re-reminded as a community our work is never done in managing power dynamics, abuse and misconduct. That the student and teacher relationship is deeply sacred. The community is deeply important it was very painful to learn about more abuse and misuse of power. We are deeply sorry to those who were/ are affected by Taylor Hunt’s abuses.
This statement is a wider, more general statement from a large collection of teachers who have worked to come together to make this bigger statement.
If you would like to watch the informal discussion we as a community had on Friday during our post-led pranayama/ chanting there is a video on YouTube linked in our bio. Please note it’s not perfect and totally unedited.
AYE next actions:
- Our shala will have a full, detailed code of conduct and complaints procedure available on our website and in-house within the next few weeks. This will be a collaborative, so if you would like to comment on a draft, you will be invited too.
- All of our main teachers have completed extensive Trauma-Informed training (50+ hours) with Edinburgh Community Yoga. Our newer teachers & Mysore assistants will be financially supported to do so in the coming years as they develop their Mysore teaching skills. This is a commitment AYE has set aside money and energy for.
