🌿✨ What does it really mean to “find yourself” and “be yourself”?
It’s not always sunshine and certainty. Sometimes, it’s about meeting the shadows we’d rather hide. It’s in facing those fears, that we begin to heal and grow.

In this new blog, I’m exploring what it means to reconnect with yourself through therapy, especially after trauma.

💬 Are there parts of you that are asking to be seen?

Imagine being met with curiosity and compassion, rather than judgement?

What might change for you if, instead of criticism, you were met with gentle curiosity? If, instead of being told to “get over it,” someone asked, “What’s this been like for you?”

You might begin to:
- feel safe enough to tell your story
- feel relief and less shame
- meet yourself with compassion

In therapy, we explore your experiences with care - not to label or fix, but to understand.

Many of us have learned to hide parts of ourselves for fear of being judged or rejected. But what if those parts simply need to be heard, seen, and held with kindness?

That’s the heart of the therapeutic space - not perfection, but presence. I hope my practice, the Quiet Tree Counselling, can provide such a reflective place where your story is welcome, just as it is.

Even in the moments that feel heavy or hopeless, light has a way of finding us - through a kind word, a warm cup of tea, a deep breath, or the steady presence of someone who sees us.

Therapy can be a space where the light begins to return - not by forcing it, but by gently opening a window. By exploring what feels hard, and slowly finding your way back to yourself.

If you’re in a dark place right now, know that there’s room for light to enter, even if only a little at a time.

✨ Instead of Being a Perfect Therapist, I Would Rather Be a Real One ✨

For me, therapy (or life in general) isn’t about perfection - it’s about connection. Healing happens in relationship, and I believe that the therapeutic space is co-created between us. Rather than striving to be a flawless expert, I choose to be real, present, and human with you.

That means showing up authentically, meeting you exactly where you are, and holding space for whatever unfolds. Therapy isn’t just about techniques or theories - it’s about relationship, trust, and the courage to explore the unknown, together.

New Blog Post: Can Trauma Be Healed?

Trauma can feel overwhelming, isolating and deeply embedded in our lives. Many of us wish we could simply press a “delete button” to erase the pain, but healing is a journey — one that is challenging but entirely possible.

💡 What trauma can look like.
💡 How it impacts the mind, body and emotions.
💡 The non-linear path to healing.
💡 How therapy can help create a safe, supportive space for processing and healing.

If you’ve ever wondered whether healing is possible or what it might look like, this post is for you. 💬

❄️ January Self-Care in the Depth of the Scottish Winter ❄️

As winter settles deeply into Scotland, with its long nights and crisp, quiet days, it’s easy to feel the weight of the season. But January can also be a time to pause and gently care for yourself.

In the stillness of winter, self-care might look like:
🌿 Wrap up for a brisk walk beneath the bare trees.
🕯️ Find warmth in the glow of candles or in a cosy blanket.
📖 Journal your thoughts as the rain taps against the window.
☕ Enjoy the comfort of a hot drink in your hands, whether it’s a soothing herbal tea, rich coffee, or indulgent hot chocolate.

Winter invites us to slow down to find moments of rest and stillness amidst the cold. Self-care doesn’t have to be grand—it’s about meeting yourself where you are, with kindness and patience.

Let this be a time to nurture yourself, honour the quiet, and find calm in the depth of winter.

Understanding Trauma: Surviving and Healing 🌱

Trauma is a deeply personal experience that can have profound effects on an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Surviving trauma means navigating through the aftermath of an event that has shaken one’s sense of safety and security.

Common responses to trauma include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and emotional numbness. It’s important to recognize that these reactions are natural responses to an abnormal event.

Healing from trauma is a journey that requires patience, self-compassion, and support. Therapy can provide invaluable tools for processing and integrating traumatic experiences.

Additionally, building a support network of trusted friends, family members, or support groups can offer validation and connection during the healing process.

Remember, healing from trauma is not linear. It’s okay to have setbacks and moments of struggle. Each step forward, no matter how small, is a testament to your strength and resilience. You are not defined by your trauma, but by your courage and capacity to heal. 💚
