In a couple of weeks time Forth SPAN (su***de prevention action network) are hosting a weekend of events including free su***de prevention training, a dry bar social event and quiz and a community networking showcase with chatty cafe. There are still some spaces left for the training on the Saturday or networking on the Sunday. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you're interested. Such a great resource for our area πŸ’› ###

~ Wishing you a Restful Christmas this Year ~

Have been very quiet on social media for the past few months as have had a few big changes going on including starting a new role in the NHS as advanced practitioner in pelvic health πŸ’›

Grateful to have been able to keep classes going though and wanted to post to say thank you so much for supporting my little business for another year πŸ₯° I am so lucky to truly love what I do, and it wouldn't be possible without your interest and support, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Exciting times ahead for 2024 so watch this space...

I hope the Christmas madness isn't too much for you and that you manage to slow down and enjoy the break when it comes.

Sending lots of Christmassy love

Fiona

~ Pelvic Floor - Pessaries ~

Have you heard of pessaries?? Pessaries are kind of the sports bra for your pelvic floor!! They sit inside the va**na like a tampon.

You can get pessaries that are more permanent (changed every 6 months) or pessaries you just put in yourself either daily or when you are symptomatic eg. For a run or long walk.

If your pessary fits correctly you shouldnt know it's there (except that your symptoms of prolapse or urinary leakage are better!). You can still train your pelvic floor with a pessary in, and some pessaries you can even be sexually active without needing to remove.

I really wish they were more widely known/spoken about as they can make a huge difference to people's quality of life.

If you think a pessary may be of benefit some GPs can fit them or you can be referred to a gynecologist. Alternatively some private physiotherapists can fit them too!

Have you heard of/benefitted from pessaries?

~ Pelvic Floor - How to contract ~

The most effective cue for engaging the pelvic floor is thinking about squeezing the a**s or starting from the back passage. The muscles run from the tailbone to the p***c bone so if you imagine the lift coming forward and up from back passage to front you should feel these muscles contracting.

Now practice taking a normal, relaxed breath in. As you breathe out, think about squeezing round the back passage and bringing that lift forward and up towards the p***c bone. Keep breathing and holding, then release when it feels tired. Practicing with this pattern of breathing mimics the pelvic floors natural function and also helps to ensure you are working the muscle through its whole range (from fully relaxed to fully contracted)

Can you find your pelvic floor muscles? Let me know in the comments!

~ Running - Marathon Thoughts ~

Marathon season is upon us. It's been a long time since I ran my marathon, but a lot of the advice I got in the few weeks before still resonate so thought it would be nice to share

πŸ‘‰you've done enough - at this stage you've done as much training as you possibly could do. You might not have managed as much as you wanted, you might see gaps in your schedule or have picked up injuries that set you back. But you have done your best and that's all you can do. The few weeks before a marathon are not the time to up your mileage or squeeze in extra runs, it's time to begin tapering back and recognising all the progress you've made over the last few months

πŸ‘‰prioritise sleep 😴- the more sleep you can get the more your body can recover from all the training and the more ready you'll feel on the day. Get some early nights in and try to get good quality sleep by ensuring your room is dark and cool, avoiding late night stress or scrolling and getting sunlight first thing to regulate your sleep hormones.

πŸ‘‰ hydrate and eat πŸ₯œπŸ₯šπŸ₯¦πŸ₯‘πŸ₯€ ensure you are super hydrated! And eat nourishing foods that you've tried and tested to be effective for you.

πŸ‘‰test out your kit πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ don't wear new clothes or trainers for the run, make sure you've worn them on long runs and they are comfortable and familiar to you.

πŸ‘‰ Name your number 9️⃣3️⃣0️⃣write your name on your number or Tshirt, its really motivating when someone from the crowd cheers on you using your name!!

πŸ‘‰Beleive in yourself -πŸ‘€ "I can do hard things"

You've got this πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ ###
