The Merkabah, when viewed as part of the Flower of Life, reveals the relationship between form and energy.

Just as the embryo grows and develops within a protective, organized structure, the Merkabah is seen as an energetic vehicle that helps the spirit navigate through higher planes of consciousness.

The Flower of Life is not just a pattern of circles; it is a map of the universe, guiding the soul towards deeper wisdom and unity.

In essence, the Flower of Life is a symbol of creation, representing both the physical and spiritual realms.

Its geometric simplicity belies the profound depth it holds, offering a glimpse into the sacred order that connects all life. From the tiny, developing blastocyst to the vast cosmos, the Flower of Life reminds us of the beauty and harmony that underlie existence, inviting us to reflect on the sacred geometry that shapes our world.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Flower of Life is that it contains within it the shape of the Merkabah, or the “vehicle of light.”

This is a three-dimensional shape that appears when two tetrahedrons, one pointing upward and the other downward, are interwoven.

The Merkabah is thought to be a symbol of divine light and consciousness, linking the physical and spiritual realms.

This shape, hidden within the Flower of Life, represents the energetic vehicle through which spiritual ascension or transformation can occur.

At a deeper level, the Flower of Life is said to represent the blueprint of creation. It is believed that within this pattern exists the fundamental geometry that underlies the structure of the universe.

Just as the blastocyst forms the foundation for the development of a human being, the Flower of Life symbolizes the potential for all forms of life, representing both the beginning and the interconnectedness of all existence.

The geometry of the Flower of Life closely mirrors the structure of life itself, especially at the early stages of devel...

The geometry of the Flower of Life closely mirrors the structure of life itself, especially at the early stages of development.

For example, when a human embryo is in the blastocyst stage, it consists of a small cluster of cells arranged in a pattern that echoes the symmetry of the Flower of Life.

These cells multiply and divide, forming the intricate structure of life, much like the expanding circles that create the Flower of Life.

This similarity suggests that the same divine order that governs the creation of life can be seen in the geometry of the Flower of Life.

As the circles continue to expand, new shapes begin to emerge from the intersections. These include the Seed of Life, wh...

As the circles continue to expand, new shapes begin to emerge from the intersections.

These include the Seed of Life, which consists of seven circles arranged in a flower-like pattern, and the Tree of Life, a more complex form that connects the Flower of Life with the ancient Kabbalistic teachings.

These shapes are not just decorative; they symbolize fundamental principles of life and creation, suggesting that everything in the universe is part of an interconnected, cyclical pattern.

The Flower of Life arises from circles. The first circle is drawn, and then a second one is placed so that its center touches the edge of the first circle.

This process continues, with each new circle touching the previous one, creating a delicate web of interwoven circles.

As the pattern grows, the overlapping areas between circles form shapes that are crucial to understanding the deeper meaning behind the Flower of Life, such as the Vesica Piscis—a lens-shaped figure that symbolizes the intersection of two worlds.

The Flower of Life is a powerful symbol in sacred geometry, often used to represent the interconnectedness of all life.

At its core is a simple circle. This circle is drawn, and then repeated, with each new circle’s center placed on the edge of the previous one.

As these circles interlock, they create a pattern of overlapping circles that forms a six-fold symmetry, resembling a flower with many petals, hence the name “Flower of Life.”

The geometric precision of these circles evokes a paradox: the sense of order that is never mathematically perfect in the natural world yet harmony is always achieved on balance.

Nestling into place.

Poem for winter ❄️
To seem like nothing, to be forgettable,
to hold still. Lonely little things now,
the size of my fist and with a lid of snow.
It surprises me there were so many:
woven sticks, shuttled stalks of w**d and grass,
the occasional scrap of blue or clear plastic,
proof of birds working invisibly in the world.
Right beside us. Even now. Even though
we can see right into the earliest light
in the universe. Even now that we can
count the atoms in a needle’s eye.
I assume the nest builders have flown south,
and will be back. I assume they’re not
following me around like a shadow that
will not sing. But I’m willing to
believe anything: that year after year
there arise secret nurseries right in front of us
in the small branches of the apricot trees,
themselves grown from pits strangers on the trail
spat out rather than wait for the trash cans.

The embryo has special meaning across time and context, symbolised as the Flower of Life in sacred geometry.

The Gita talks about the embryo as knowledge “concealed” by the womb… and herein lies the talking point. Where does womb end and baby begin? Conceal or nourish? Hold or held?

BG 3.38: Just as a fire is covered by smoke, a mirror is masked by dust, and an embryo is concealed by the womb, similarly one’s knowledge gets shrouded by desire.

dhūmenāvriyate vahnir yathādarśho malena cha
yatholbenāvṛito garbhas tathā tenedam āvṛitam

dhūmena—by smoke; āvriyate—is covered; vahniḥ—fire; yathā—just as; ādarśhaḥ—mirror; malena—by dust; cha—also; yathā—just as; ulbena—by the womb; āvṛitaḥ—is covered; garbhaḥ—embryo; tathā—similarly; tena—by that (desire); idam—this; āvṛitam—is covered
