Itโ€™s Dementia Action Week!

Did you know that research suggests up to 45% of dementia cases may be linked to modifiable risk factors? ๐Ÿง

While dementia cannot always be prevented, there are lifestyle, physical health, and social factors that may help support long-term brain health across the lifespan.

Some examples include:
๐Ÿ’™ Staying physically active
๐Ÿ’™ Managing blood pressure & cardiovascular health
๐Ÿ’™ Supporting hearing health
๐Ÿ’™ Staying socially connected
๐Ÿ’™ Prioritising sleep and wellbeing
๐Ÿ’™ Keeping mentally engaged

This Dementia Action Week, weโ€™re highlighting the importance of awareness, education, and small changes that may support long-term cognitive wellbeing.

For todayโ€™s Mental Health Awareness Week activity, Team TEP โ€œplanted our worriesโ€ together ๐ŸŒฑ

We each wrote down a small worry or stressor on a piece of paper and planted it beneath our sunflower seeds as part of a mindful gardening activity ๐ŸŒป

๐ŸŒฟ Research suggests that gardening and spending time in nature may help to reduce stress, support relaxation, encourage mindfulness, and positively impact emotional wellbeing.

For today's Mental Health Awareness Week activity, we went on a lovely walk around Holyrood Park and did the Colour Walk Challenge!

๐ŸŒป Research shows that both movement and spending time outdoors can calm anxious thoughts, promotes good sleep, and improve mood and energy levels.

For today's Mental Health Awareness Week activity, we decorated plant pots and coasters! We enjoyed having some time to wind down, catch up with each other, and be creative๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒป Research has shown that creative activities, such as painting and drawing, can be a really useful way to reduce anxious thoughts, feel grounded, and enhance confidence and self-esteem.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, Team TEP have organised a week of daily activities to help support our mental wellbeing ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒป Today, we took part in a calming meditation session led by our lovely Secretary, Frances. It was a wonderful opportunity to pause, slow down, and focus on grounding ourselves in the present moment. We also enjoyed learning a little more about the benefits of meditation and mindfulness for mental wellbeing.

Even a few mindful moments in the day can make a meaningful difference ๐Ÿ’™
