I’m starting a new series all about PGP—what it is and how we can better support those experiencing it.

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) affects 1 in 5 pregnant people. While it’s common, that doesn’t mean it should be accepted as “normal” 🙌.

PGP is a biomechanical condition that impacts the joints of the pelvis. It often causes pain in the pelvic area, hips, and thighs, and may be accompanied by sensations like clicking or grinding in the hips.

This pain can affect nearly every movement—walking on uneven ground, getting in and out of a car, climbing stairs, dressing, or even turning over in bed can become incredibly difficult.

The good news? There is support out there 🫶. Manual therapy is key!

Your GP can refer you to a physiotherapist, but you also have the option of seeing a chiropractor or osteopath. Manual therapy works to improve pelvic joint function, and when paired with simple exercises, it can make a big difference in managing symptoms.
