Story of pinsaru continues - do you remember Kusum who makes incense sticks. I got to know her last year through Facebook and spoke with her on WhatsApp. I got samples from her and wanted to help her create a product that can be sold internationally. She faced many challenges trying to make this happen. I could only help her very little from Scotland. While many kind generous friends helped her buy the incense making machine, design the packaging and give expert advice, supporther financially, there were also some who took advantage of her. The printers whom they gave the order for packaging took more money off her than originally quoted and gave her a faulty product 😞, no refund or correction made. However, none of these challenges slow her down. Last week I got to meet her and her family in person. She explained how she and her husband Wimalasiri, both completely blind go to Pettah ( the wholesale market in colombo) by bus to buy the raw materials, then they make the incense sticks in various fragrances, and her 2 sons (10 and 14) package them. I am humbled by their ditermination, effort and commitment. Tge gratitude and respect expressed by her sons are a fine example for many children and adults. Kusum has many dreams , not just for her and her family but also for her blind community. While I'm taking baby steps trying to support this iron women, she's taking brave leaps foreard to reach her goals. I will share more about Kusum in a separate post and end this one by reminding that I'm bringing kusums lovely insence sticks in 3 fragrances to Edinburgh next week. Its your turn to support Kusum by purchasing her products. Entire profit from the sales goes to Kusum to develop her business and for the education of her children

A wee holiday and a book to mark the completion of 4 decades of life.. honouring the times of surviving, falling , rising, and growing, healing, learning, searching, unlearning, exploring, and more unlearning, healing and relearning. I am most grateful to my parents, my sister and brother, my beloved husband, my 2 daughters, my extended family, teachers and friends, you all formed and shaped my life, helped me understand life and realise my dreams. I'm forever grateful to Yoga , Dharma, the teaching of life. You reached me when I was most vulnerable, you braced and embraced me when i was about to give up. you are patient with my ignorance, gracious with my arrogance, compassionate towards my fears, and hopeful of my limited understanding. Cheers! and welcome to another year of living, learning and sharing ❤

Trauma informed yoga focused on relaxation this morning for parents and carers

As a mum of 2, yoga has always been part of my life that supported my physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Yoga helped me recover and regain my Wellness during difficult times. By becoming a yoga teacher, I hoped to share these benefits with others just like me. It was my pleasure this morning to share yoga with this lovely group of parents and carers. Together, we tended to ourselves, reconnected with our inner warriors, embraced our godess self and tapped into our potent wholeness through a restful relaxation.

Thank you so much to all of you who shared Kusum's story, spread the word, purchased her incense and shared feedback. Kusum and her family are most grateful for all your continous support.

Do you like the incense stick holders in the picture? I bought them from a young man in South of Sri Lanka who handcraft them from offcuts of other wood crafts. They are solid wood, very attractive and only £8. I have few more with me. PM to order these holders with your incense sticks before they are all gone. Help me support small businesses in Sri Lanka. Go to the link in bio to read the full story of Kusum.
