It’s a common belief that rest is best after an injury — but it’s not always that simple.

While some injuries may need a short period of rest, too much inactivity can lead to stiffness, weakness, and delayed recovery. In many cases, gradual and appropriate movement actually helps the healing process.

Physiotherapy helps guide this — identifying what you should rest, what you can keep doing, and how to safely build things back up over time.

Recovery isn’t about doing nothing — it’s about doing the right amount at the right time.

Hi, I’m Lisa - owner of Prime Sports Physiotherapy.

7 weeks ago I had a total knee replacement after years of problems following a car accident 12 years ago. What started as an injury slowly became a knee that just couldn’t keep going anymore.

The rehab journey so far has been a real rollercoaster. Physically tough, mentally tougher at times - and some days have honestly felt pretty grim. But little by little, things are improving, and for the first time in a long time, the future is looking much brighter.

This week I was back seeing some clinic patients again ❤️

A reminder that recovery isn’t linear, progress isn’t always obvious, and sometimes just showing up is the win.

New to physio? Here’s exactly what to expect at your first appointment at our ✨brand new clinic✨ at David Lloyd Newhaven 👇

📍 When you arrive, head into the David Lloyd building and make your way upstairs. Check in when you get there so your physio knows you’ve arrived.

🗣️ We’ll start with a chat to understand what’s been going on – your symptoms, how it’s affecting you, and what you want to get back to.

🔍 From there, we’ll carry out a full assessment looking at your movement, mobility, strength, and any relevant areas to build a clear picture of what’s been going on.

🧠 We’ll explain our findings so you understand what’s going on and what we can do to help.

🤲 We’ll usually begin treatment in your first session. This might include hands-on therapy, guided rehab exercises, or a combination of both depending on what you need.

📋 You’ll leave with a clear plan, including advice or exercises to start working on straight away.

💳 We welcome both self-paying and insurance patients, and we’ll get your follow-up session booked in before you leave.

Pain can feel like a clear signal that something is “wrong,” but it’s not always that simple.

While pain can be linked to injury, it’s also shaped by things like stress, sleep, past experiences, activity levels, and overall health. This means you can have pain without significant tissue damage — and equally, some people have injuries without much pain at all.

Understanding pain is important in recovery. Physiotherapy helps you make sense of your symptoms, reduce fear around movement, and gradually build confidence and strength again.

The goal isn’t just to “switch off” pain — it’s to help you move better, feel more in control, and get back to doing what matters to you.
