“Completing and passing the DUMC exam was hugely rewarding on both a professional and personal level. I returned to work with renewed confidence in my knowledge and skills, knowing I had met the benchmark of a reputable college. It was also reassuring to see such a diverse group of candidates—doctors, nurses and paramedics—reflecting the reality of urgent care. Preparing for the exam gave me real insight into the system, common presentations, and a deeper understanding of why patients seek urgent care.”

— Ben Sayner, Paramedic

Brand new consensus statement on the management of crush injury

The FPHC has updated its 2003 guidance on the pre-hospital management of crush injury. Previous suggestions for aggressive intravenous fluid and prophylactic potassium lowering therapy are no longer recommended. Early, safe release of the crushing force, focus on standard trauma care, and transfer to specialised centres are the main focus of this guidance. Cardiac monitoring and point-of-care potassium testing is also suggested.
