Did you know that September is the month with the highest birth rate in the UK? More babies are born in September than in any other month, 9 months after the Christmas season! š„š
As our appointments get booked up in advance, this is my reminder to get your pregnancy reflexology treatments booked in early or there wonāt be any left! Itās our busiest month when I get lots of enquiries from heavily pregnant or overdue women who are keen to avoid being induced and have heard that pregnancy reflexology might help. So is that true?
Of course, thereās no guarantee, but there are certain reflexes and acupressure points I concentrate on which can help to prime the body for birthing. At this stage, itās also about providing deep relaxation, helping the mum-to-be to switch off completely and connect with her baby. I will also explore whether there is anything else which might be holding them back. I help them to let go of that control and surrender to the babyās schedule and birth process.
In September, we will be donating 10% from all our sales of pregnancy and postnatal reflexology and massage treatments to the fundraiser. The PPC is a brilliant local charity, supporting families in Edinburgh & Lothian through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood for the last 40 years. It is currently at risk of closure due to increased costs and decreased funding, which would be a tragedy. If you have benefited from one of their groups, classes, workshops, or nearly new sales, please consider donating to help them reach their target. Link in their bio to donate. Or book in with us and weāll donate. Thank you!
Due to our specialist training, we can work with women throughout pregnancy, including the first trimester. Reflexology can help to ease pain or discomfort in your back, hips and pelvis. It also works on systemic issues eg digestive system (constipation, bloating, heartburn) or the endocrine system ā helping to balance your hormones which can do all sorts of crazy things during pregnancy! Studies have shown that maternity reflexology can increase your chances of having a faster labour with less pain. Itās also very good for emotional wellbeing as it can help to ease any stress or anxiety you may be feeling during pregnancy. Itās wonderful to be forced to slow down and rest for the best part of an hour, and have time dedicated to you and your needs. With pregnancy reflexology, we suggest having a treatment once a month as maintenance and to help with any particular pregnancy niggles. From 38 weeks onwards, we suggest weekly treatments to prepare your body for birthing and to help you to relax, reducing stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol which can actually inhibit the production of oxytocin needed for birth.
If you are due in the next couple of months, please get in touch sooner rather than later as our appointments do get booked up. You can see me, or my lovely colleagues Holly Gibb or Kristi Sloan, who are also experienced reflexologists and have both done the same maternity reflexology training as me.
Blissful pregnancy and postnatal massage sessions are also available with my colleague Elena. Clients love them!
We can do gift vouchers:
- for a pregnant friend or family member
- as a gift for a baby shower
- as a maternity leave gift for a pregnant colleague
