Scottish Hospices are facing a severe funding crisis, with an estimated £16million shortfall across the country. Many are preparing to cut essential services. We are determined not to let that happen here, but we can’t do it alone.

This week is Child Grief Awareness Week, and our Child and Family Services team have put together this display outside the Hub to highlight some stories from the families they work with, from the point of view of the child.

The service offers a wide variety of support and activities for young people, including keepsake work, familiy days, pre & post bereavement support, and support for schools.

After meeting at the Women on Top Summit in September Tiger Lily Boutique in Morningside invited us to their VIP Christmas Fashion Show and shopping event. All of the proceeds from their raffle on the night came to St Columba’s, with generous prizes from Time and Tide, , Charlie Miller Salons and Tiger Lily themselves.

We are so excited to be bringing Sporting Memories to the Hospice!

Starting this week, the Sporting Memories group will meet on Wednesday mornings, and is open to those with a palliative condition.

Sporting memories can bring people together to reminisce, share stories and just discuss all things sporty! From favourite players events and memories, to player cards and autograph books, these treasured moments from years gone by can be a joy to share!

If you’d like to join us, or have any questions, please get in touch on 0131 551 1381, and ask for wellbeing. Booking is required, and coffee and cake will be provided!

In the Coop app, just select St Columba's Hospice Care as your chosen cause, and every time you purchase a Coop branded item, a proportion of your sale will be donated to the Hospice at no extra cost to you!

We’re delighted to share that Livingston James have chosen us as their charity partner for 2026! This marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership, and we’re so looking forward to working together to make a real difference for our patients and their families.

To kick things off, a huge thank you to the wonderful Livingston James team for coming along and volunteering in our Hospice Gardens. Your hard work clearing the leaves has made the garden look truly beautiful for Autumn.

We’ll be sharing more details soon, but what a fantastic start to this partnership!

Discover the power of poetry as a tool for remembrance, on Tuesday 11th November from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This guided session offers a gentle and welcoming space to reflect on loved ones through poems about memory, love, and loss. You are invited to join us in writing, sharing your own poems, or simply listening to others. No poetry experience is needed; all are welcome to participate in this shared experience.

Light refreshments will be provided.

This session will be facilitated by our dramatherapist, Sally McRae.

5 Hills down, 2 to go...

Earlier this year, live streamer Liam, aka Docy93, surpassed his goal of raising over £25,000 for the Hospice. One of his challenges along the way was to hike The 7 Hills. Moving to Germany has made this more of a challenge, but true to his word, he ticked off 5 of the 7 hills during his recent visit to Edinburgh with his wife, Anna. Our fundraisers Hannah and Diane joined in, carefully selecting the one hill with coffee and pastries at the top!
