Our Cranleigh client Carol all dressed up and ready to go out for supper with some friends. Carol really enjoys socialising and having a carer on hand to help get her ready meant her and her husband were able to enjoy a lovely evening together with friends.

Healthy meals for the elderly

When it comes to supporting older people at home, good healthy and nutritious food is incredibly important. As we age, our bodies change, as do our nutritional needs so eating well becomes even more important; however, it’s not always easy to regularly prepare healthy meals.

There are many physical, emotional and practical reasons why older people may struggle to eat well. Reduced mobility or cognitive decline for example can make food shopping and preparing meals difficult but there are ways of supporting someone you care for with eating. A meal delivery service can be a great option for arranging meals for elderly people living at home which is why we’ve teamed up with COOK, a home-cooked frozen meal delivery service. Their simple and delicious meals can make day-to-day life easier for older people and their families.

Maggie, a client of Bright Care Edinburgh, enjoys both painting and drawing, usually focussing on landscapes. This is the first time she has drawn a picture of herself with her carer. We love the way she has drawn them sitting together, chatting, laughing and discussing travel. She has really captured the special bond they share.

Our visits start from 2 hours so our Carers have quality time to spend with their clients and can enable them to keep doing the things they love!

Margaret (pictured) is a client of our Edinburgh branch. She has always been a gracious host, planning many events. Supported by her carer, Margaret hosted some friends to celebrate Burns Night with a Burns supper and a wee dram to toast the Baird.

Our Stirling branch helped one of their live-in clients celebrate Burns night with a delicious Burns supper of haggis, neeps and tatties and a few poems.

Recruitment - how are carers trained?

At Bright Care, we take pride in recruiting the best Care Assistants to deliver exceptional care to our clients. When the Carer recruitment process is complete, all our new staff take part in a 4 day, onboarding programme at the Bright Care Training Academy to ensure they are equipped to deliver the highest standards of care.

In our latest blog, we take a closer look at how carers are recruited and trained, from the initial application through to the start of their work with clients. We hear from Mary, a Carer who has recently completed the process, Keira, her Branch Manager and Karen, Staff Trainer at the Bright Care Training Academy.
