Real Results from an Edinburgh Professional

One of my clients, a partner at an Edinburgh law firm, came to me with chronic low back pain.

She'd been experiencing pain on and off for 8 years, but the most recent exacerbation happened just two weeks before visiting the clinic. Over the years, she'd tried stretching, strengthening, massage, and ergonomic changes.

Nothing seemed to work.

When I assessed her, I found specific spinal restrictions in her spine and pelvis. Her nervous system had adapted to poor posture and minor injuries over the years, including trying to get everything done with a child on one hip.

We created a plan:
1 Restore spinal mobility through targeted care
2 Address muscle imbalance through specific exercises
3 Retrain postural patterns through consistent practice

By her 6-week re-examination, she had noticed a 70% improvement, with increased ease of movement, reduced pain, and greater comfort in her body.

But more importantly, she understood what was happening in her body. She understood why her previous approaches hadn't worked. And most importantly, she was practising the exercises.

She now maintains her health through consistent movement breaks and periodic check-ups.

The key insight: addressing the root cause (spinal restriction and nervous system adaptation) can work when other approaches don't.

If you've been experiencing recurring bouts of pain or struggling with pain that doesn't seem to improve, it might be because you're not addressing the real problem.

Most office workers sit for 8+ hours a day without moving.

This creates specific problems in your body. Your muscles tighten. Your joints restrict. Your posture deteriorates.

But here's what most people don't realize: regular movement breaks can help with all of this. WITHOUT – and this is the key – without breaking your concentration.

You must develop a body that knows how to take care of itself, even when you are deep in concentration.

I realise this may sound non-sensical, but deep in concentration the brain can cut out the entire world, including what is happening in your own body.

Here's what you can do: Every 20 minutes, stand up, then sit back down. Then every 60-90 minutes take a 5-minute movement break. Do 10 chin tucks, and if you can go for a brief walk, and when you return do 4-4 box breathing for a minute. Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4 and hold for 4.

This simple routine interrupts the sitting cycle and prevents muscle adaptation.

There are other more specific movement breaks that address the problems created by sitting.

Want to understand what they are?

Let's talk.

The hidden reason for weak posture

Your posture isn't getting worse because you're not trying hard enough.

It's getting worse because of how your nervous system works.

When you sit poorly for hours every day, your nervous system adapts. It becomes your new normal.

Your muscles adapt. Your joints adapt. Your postural pattern becomes locked in.

Before the muscles and joints adapt: Your nervous system has created neural pathways that maintain poor posture. Your brain literally expects your body to be in that position.

Then, when you try to sit up straight, it feels uncomfortable. Your body wants to return to its familiar pattern.

This is why willpower isn't enough. This is why reminders don't work alone.

You need to address how your nervous system has adapted to poor posture.

What you can do: Practice neutral spine position for just 2-3 minutes daily. In the morning and evening, just as you clean your teeth, practice the chin tuck exercise shown in a previous video.

However, here's the deeper issue: breaking deeply ingrained patterns requires more than just this alone, especially once the joints and muscles have adapted.

There's a specific way to do this. Most people are unaware of what it is.

Would you like to understand how to break the pattern?
