How often do you hear this well-meaning advice - from a friend, family member, colleague etc. ​​​​​​​​

The thing is: what works for your friend/sister/colleague doesn't necessarily work for you. You might hate running. You might live for breakfast. And you may have decided you're done with calorie counting. ​​​​​​​​

So remember, you are you. Stay in your lane. Find out what works for you. What exercise do you love? What brings you joy in life? What causes you stress and what can you do to manage stress? ​​​​​​​​

Seriously, is this ever the case! Not from most people's experience. ​​​​​​​​

When I help clients lose weight, I never hear them talk about their weight loss history with excitement. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
It's quite the opposite: they talk of their battles, struggles and frustration. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
And yet, 'Excited to get started ' are the most common four words I hear from people when they leave my free 1 hour Weight Loss Clarity Call. ​​​​​​​​

The leave with hope, they leave liking the sound of my much kinder and compassionate approach that works, they leave feeling excited. ​​​​​​​​

It's almost a year ago since I shared a similar post to this saying 'Let's talk about weight'. ​​​​​​​​

Yet I haven't. ​​​​​​​​

I've talked about health, about coaching, about yoga but not about weight (I can talk forever about the former three!). ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
What is it about weight that makes it uncomfortable for us to talk about it?​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
S*x, money and weight - three things that we don't really talk about - at least openly.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​

I'm sure you've heard this before, 'If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got'. ​​​​​​​​
But how easy is it to set off down that same old path even thought it didn't work for you before? You might decide to give it some extra oomph this time yet really, you're venturing down that same old path that didn't work (duh!).​​​​​​​​
I like to think of it like a maze. There might be more than one way to where you want to go - maybe three say. But there are many more that end up as dead ends. And you've tried a dead end path before and ended up back where you started or worse. So why then are you deciding that if go at it full on this time, that you're going to somehow get through that dead end?​​​​​​​​
Most people I work with in my coaching have gone down that same old path that doesn't work so many times, each time willing it to work. Of course these old paths can be useful. They can teach us what has and hasn't worked so we can take any helpful parts with us on our new path next time. So when you set off wanting to make your desired change, remember, that getting through a dead end isn't about willpower or commitment and instead choose a path that can lead to where you want to go.

When it comes to making change, this is my top tip: 'It comes from the inside'. Most people start with what they think they need to do differently and wonder why they fail to make or keep up their desired change(s). For lasting change, start from the inside. Consider what you need to THINK differently instead of what you need to DO differently.​​​​​​​​

Have you tried time and time again, setting off full of motivation only to give up a few days later deciding it was a bad idea, or not for you, or not the right time. ​​​​​​​​
Now just think, what if your desired results were guaranteed? What if I told you, you will 100% get these results. ​​​​​​​​
Let's just be clear - I won't do this - and if anyone else does, you'd want to question it as * how can anyone else guarantee results that require input from you*. The only person who can give that guarantee is yourself. You can guarantee to yourself that you will change what's not working for you. You can guarantee to stay with this until you get the results. Do you ever ask yourself this? ​​​​​​​​
Getting your weight to within a healthy weight range can seem like a maze out there with all the different paths? 'Do I start with smaller portions?', 'Should I reduce carbs', 'I've read that plant-based is good for weight loss'. Or maybe 'Should I join a gym?', 'Or take up running', or... sometime it can all become so confusing that it's easier to do nothing at all. To stay where you are. To stay stuck. ​​​​​​​​
I don't start with any of the above. I always start with finding out where your mind is: ​​​​​​​​
How much do you want do lose weight? ​​​​​​​​
How committed are you to this? ​​​​​​​​
How much do you believe you can lose weight? (- this is always a big one!)
