We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Mum, Morag, founder and creator of dovelight wellbeing passed away in early September this year after bravely walking her own path with her cancer journey.

Our Mum was a special kind of light moving through the world with care and creativity. She was someone with a warm glow and healing qualities who positively touched the lives of many.

She poured her heart and soul into dovelight and helping people. With a vision to support each person through a holistic approach; the physical, emotional and spiritual. dovelight was a space for colour, dance, yoga, nature therapy and healing.

As a family we are moving through each chapter in the aftermath of her passing. At present, dovelight is currently closed and will be for the foreseeable future. We will keep you updated on any continuation of dovelight in due time.

It helps to talk 💛

If you are struggling or feeling down, talking can feel like the hardest thing in the world to do. It can feel easier to keep it all inside, play everything around over and over again in your mind and suffer in silence. The idea of talking to someone can feel overwhelming and it can easy to talk ourselves out of it.

Talking to a friend or family member could be your first step but sometimes we don't want to share our feelings with those closest to us. This is where a counsellor can be really helpful. A counsellor can simply sit with you until you are ready to talk. They will give you the space to speak.

Hi! I’m Morag, founder of dovelight wellbeing.

My vision for this centre began at a time in my life when my own path was transforming. Looking back, I have lived many lives, experienced many adventures and faced quite a few challenges. Family is very important to me; I have three wonderful children, now grown. Part of my life I spent as an English teacher before training as a Person-centred counsellor. This work has inspired and humbled me. Being trusted and given the preciousness of truths, has been an honour. Poetry, reading, walking and dance have enabled me to learn and express myself; bringing me peace and joy. I understand the power of kindness and the nobility of its strength. And that love will always light our way.

At a certain point in my life an opportunity came to bring into being a vision I had of a holistic wellbeing centre. It was to be a safe haven where people would come for support; for those who were struggling in their lives; for clients who wanted to address issues they had carried for a time, and for those who needed change but didn’t know how.

I believe people have their own truth, their own answers and healing within themselves – they just need gifted people to assist them in finding their way.

dovelight is somewhere to come to be listened to, respected and valued. We can walk your path with you in the way you choose. We can provide the optimum nurturing of you to empower you. It begins with trust and leads to empowerment ✨

A little bit about us...

dovelight wellbeing is a calm and colourful space. When you walk in, you can feel a very special energy. We have experienced therapists that work within the space. They offer a range of therapies from counselling, to art therapy and yoga.

We are located in Edinburgh on 201 Colinton Road, EH14 1BJ and our opening hours are Monday - Friday from 10am to 5pm.

Before coming to dovelight, we encourage you to get in touch and book a therapy. You can book any of our therapies on our website. If you are unsure what to book or would like more information, we also offer consultation calls with Morag, dovelights founder and qualified Person-Centred Counsellor.

Neil Howell is a Body-oriented psychotherapist at dovelight.

Neil's path to becoming a psychotherapist began with his own need to receive such help.

Neil said "Possibly, in common with many men, I was somewhat blind to the emotional consequences of my own actions, but an expert at justifying them! Over time, though, I found it more and more difficult to explain the failed relationships and reluctantly had to start acknowledging my own role in the resulting distress. Even more difficult was being able to ask for help, let alone knowing where to find it.

Good fortune prevailed and at an appropriate time I encountered a therapist who ‘clicked’ with me. I further experimented with Men’s groups, Dance Therapy, and most importantly with meditation in various Thai Buddhist monasteries. This rich and varied self-exploration enabled my body, heart and mind to finally come into balance. I had discovered a softer, less judgemental, more caring and compassionate side of myself. I felt more whole.

Having gained so much for myself, I was naturally drawn to offer something in return to those seeking help for themselves. So I began a series of trainings in 1994, commencing with traditional Thai massage, Therapeutic massage, Dance Movement Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for trauma, and it continues in the present with my membership of Trauma Training in Scotland, an organisation dedicated to promoting the latest cutting edge techniques for reprocessing unresolved trauma/PTSD.

For the past 8 years I have been working with men, specialising in early childhood abuse, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, PTSD, and complex trauma."

Neil is now excited to be bringing his wealth of experience and expertise to men seeking support here at dovelight.

Make this year the year of YOU 🧡

At dovelight we believe looking after your physical health is just as important as looking after your emotional and spiritual health. When we don't look after ourselves we can feel out of balance. Taking time for ourselves, whether that be speaking to someone in Counselling, stretching it out in Yoga or relaxing in Reiki, is vital for our overall wellness. This year we encourage you to put yourself first (we can't pour from an empty cup) and do things that will help you stay balanced.

We offer a number of different therapies all of which are facilitated by experienced therapists. Our therapies are available at dovelight, a warm, colourful, safe space in central Edinburgh.
