It’s MS Awareness Week!

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects the brain and spinal cord and impacts how people move, think and feel.

Symptoms can be different for everyone, but one thing that everyone with MS has in common is conversations about MS.

This week, we want to show that opening up about MS can be empowering. But we know that whether it’s a difficult conversation with a family member who’s just been diagnosed or taking the step to ask an employer for support, finding the right words might be hard.

That’s why we’re once again teaming up with other MS charities to share one unified message - talking about MS can be difficult, but it doesn't have to be.

All week long, we’ll be sharing stories and resources to help start those all-important conversations – whether you have MS yourself or want to be there for someone in your life who does.

I’m emailing you as a constituent and someone who is passionate about speaking up for multiple sclerosis (MS).

You will have received an invitation from the MS Society Scotland to attend their exhibition stand in Scottish Parliament from Tuesday 29 April to Thursday 1 May.

I urge you to attend this important event to gain a greater understanding of the reality of living with MS and how to better support our community both in Scotland and the UK as a whole.

Experts from the MS Society Scotland will be on hand to share their insights and the lived experience of people with MS with parliamentarians.

I hope that you attend this event to show your support for people living with MS. MS is a lifelong condition that affects over 17,000 people in Scotland, making it more common here than in most other countries in the world.

It’s vital that as my MSP you understand the daily reality of MS. And it’s even more important when policies about our health, care and financial security are being brought to parliament.
