Transport problems getting to the Lossiemouth Medical Centre?
A quick update on the Hopeman Community Minibus:
"Having sat unused for some months, the minibus had a couple of mechanical problems that have now been resolved. As a registered Scottish Charity, we have been able to secure some funding that will allow us to help people get to medical appointments at the Moray Coast Health Centre in Lossiemouth, while the satellite surgeries at Hopeman and Burghead remain closed due to CoVID restrictions. We can also offer a service to Dr Grayβs and other medical institutions in Elgin for those whose age and mobility does not make the use of Stagecoach buses easy.
Please do also try to use Moray Councilβs Dial M for Moray dial-a-bus service which is βAn accessible door to door bus service for anyone, regardless of age or disability, who is unable to use existing forms of transport or does not have access to a regular bus service.β You need to register to use the service by calling the Moray Council Contact Centre on 0300 1234565. Use of that service is free if you have a Bus Pass, and journeys can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance. However, it is accepted that this service is generally not available during times that the buses are being used for schools runs, so we can certainly help fill that gap.
The dedicated Booking Line number is 07485 561007. When you call, please have all the following information available:
1. Your name
2. Your phone number (both landline if you have one and mobile)
3. Your address including postcode
4. The date the journey is required
5. The time and place of your appointment or other reason for booking. Please also have the address and postcode of your destination available if your journey is not to Moray Coast Health Centre or Dr Grayβs.
6. Whether you require a return journey and the desired pick up time; the minibus is likely to wait for you if it is a short duration visit.
7. If you are unable to enter and exit the minibus yourself (it is 2 staircase sized steps), we would highly recommend that you bring someone from your CoVID support bubble along to help you. Please make us aware of this at the time of booking.
8. Finally, will you be using a walking aid other than a walking stick?
The booking line is not manned continuously as we are all volunteers with other commitments, so you may well have to leave a message and we will get back to you.
Please be aware that the Minibus does not have a lift facility so cannot handle those in wheelchairs. Also be aware that the wearing of seat belts and face masks is currently a condition of carriage unless you have a medical exemption certificate for either or both.
Our volunteer drivers will also be wearing masks, and we have CoVID procedures in place for cleaning the minibus between trips."
