🔎 Sciatica… or something else? Let’s talk differential diagnosis.

That sharp, radiating pain down the leg is often labelled “sciatica” — but did you know it isn’t always caused by a nerve root entrapment in the spine?

Sometimes, the piriformis muscle (a small but mighty muscle deep in the buttock) can compress the sciatic nerve, creating almost identical symptoms.

The difference matters — a lot.
➡️ If the nerve is irritated at the spine, treatment focuses on relieving pressure at the nerve root.
➡️ If it’s the piriformis, we target muscle length, strength, and nerve mobility instead.

That’s why seeing a physiotherapist for a precise diagnosis is essential. With a thorough assessment, we can identify the true source of your pain and guide you with the right treatment and exercise programme — so you recover faster, more safely, and for good.

✨ Don’t guess the cause — get it assessed.

Struggling with Heel Pain? 👣

Heel pain is one of the most common issues we see at Physiotherapy Works — and it can really affect your day-to-day life. Whether it’s that sharp pain first thing in the morning or a dull ache after standing all day, plantar fasciitis is often the culprit.

💥 The good news: Our new Shockwave Therapy service can help!

Shockwave Therapy uses focused acoustic waves to stimulate your body’s natural healing process. It increases blood flow, breaks down stubborn scar tissue, and encourages new tissue regeneration — helping to reduce pain and speed up recovery.

✅ Benefits include:
• Rapid pain relief
• Faster healing for chronic conditions
• Non-invasive and drug-free
• Clinically proven results for plantar fasciitis and heel pain

💷 Pricing:
• £75 – 45-minute initial assessment and first treatment
• £50 – per follow-up treatment
(Usually 3–6 sessions are required for best results)

📲 Book your initial assessment & treatment via our website:

Your physiotherapist will arrange your follow-up appointments thereafter, ensuring your treatment plan is tailored to your progress.

💗 Every new mum deserves a Postnatal MOT 💗

Pregnancy and childbirth place huge demands on your body. A Postnatal MOT gives you the detailed check-in you need so you can recover well, regain strength, and feel confident again.

What the assessment includes:
🩺 A full postural screen to evaluate how your spine, pelvis and shoulders are coping after pregnancy and birth.
💪 An abdominal wall check for separation of the stomach muscles (diastasis recti) and core-muscle function.
🌸 A pelvic floor assessment — examining strength, coordination and how well it’s supporting bladder, bowel and sexual health.
🤱 Screening for common postnatal issues: back or pelvic pain, bladder or bowel symptoms, posture changes, and anyone who is still feeling “not quite right”.
🧘‍♀️ A personalised rehabilitation plan with tailored exercises and advice to suit your lifestyle, baby-care demands, and long-term recovery goals.

When should you do it?
⏰ Although many clinics recommend doing this after your routine 6–8 week check, it’s never too late — whether you’re 6 weeks or 6 years post-birth, a Postnatal MOT can still make a big difference.

✨ Book your appointment with specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist, Amie Manning, and take the next step in restoring your strength, function and confidence.

Tired of ongoing Achilles pain that just won’t settle?

If you’ve been struggling with chronic or stubborn Achilles pain, you’re not alone and there is an effective treatment option.

At Physiotherapy Works, we use Shockwave Therapy to help resolve long-term Achilles tendon issues that haven’t responded to rest, rehabilitation, or manual therapy.

Shockwave Therapy works by delivering targeted acoustic energy to the affected area. This stimulates blood flow, encourages tissue repair, and helps to break down thickened scar tissue promoting the body’s natural healing process.

Many patients notice a significant reduction in pain and improved mobility after just a few sessions.

If your Achilles pain has been holding you back, our experienced physiotherapists can assess your condition and determine whether Shockwave Therapy is right for you.

5-Star Google Reviews for Our Team!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We’re so proud to share our most recent Google Reviews, recognising the fantastic care provided by our physiotherapists, Tyler and Rebecca.

For Tyler:

“I managed to get an appointment at very short notice, as I was in agony with knee pain. I saw Tyler, who quickly diagnosed the problem, and worked through some exercises with me. He massaged the hamstring area to loosen it. I had a follow-up appointment, where he gave me some more exercises. He was polite, professional and the exercises worked – I followed the plan at home. I would highly recommend.” – J. Barraclough

“The treatment and care I received at Physiotherapy Works was excellent. The staff, Tyler in particular, are very warm, welcoming and professional.” – L. Gillespie

For Rebecca:

“Used Physiotherapy Works after twinging my back in the gym and Rebecca was fantastic at providing both rehab, helpful exercises and advice to help me recover quickly, but also considered the complexities of my job and travel into her recommendations which really helped me stick to it!” – R. Pritchard

Thank you to all our patients who take the time to share their experiences on Google — it really means a lot to our team.

Exciting Day at Physiotherapy Works! 💥

Today our whole team took part in Shockwave Therapy training, led by our brilliant Clinical Lead, Tracy. This marks the culmination of weeks of preparation from our management team — pulling together research, protocols, and training to bring this new and highly effective treatment to our patients.

Shockwave Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing in chronic soft tissue injuries. It’s particularly beneficial for conditions such as:
✅ Achilles tendinopathy
✅ Plantar fasciitis
✅ Tennis and golfer’s elbow
✅ Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
✅ Shoulder tendinopathy (including calcific tendinitis)

The treatment works by increasing blood flow, breaking down scar tissue, and stimulating the body’s natural repair process, helping patients recover faster and get back to the activities they love.

We’re thrilled to be launching this new service at Physiotherapy Works — another step forward in delivering cutting-edge, evidence-based physiotherapy to our community.

👏 Huge thanks to Tracy and everyone involved in getting us ready to roll!
