The summer holidays are almost upon us! Over the next 6 weeks will begin the juggle of work and childcare while the children are off school for the summer! The clinic is busier than ever and my hours will be reduced while I take some time off to enjoy (police) my little cherubs so I will be putting my home visit sessions on pause just for the summer. This will help me maximise how many appointments I can fit in at the clinic and I’ll hopefully be back up and running with visits again in September. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

To my fellow parents, good luck to you over the next 6 weeks!! To anyone who calls me to book an appointment over the next 6 weeks, prepare to hear small people shouting “MUMMMYY” every 5-10 seconds in the background 😂🫠✊🏼☀️

17 years ago today! Where does the time go?! This is me receiving my First class honours degree in Audiology from The University of Manchester in 2008 🤓 taken many years before I had kids and started ageing in dog years 😂😂

❌ WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BE USING COTTON BUDS IN YOUR EARS… and why I shouldn’t be using ChatGPT 😂❌

Today I asked ChatGPT to help me put together an illustration of what happens to ear wax when you use a cotton bud in your ear. After MANY failed attempts I think you get the gist from this one 😂 I know they’re tempting but please avoid poking anything into your ear canal as it will only push and impact wax deeper into the ear, not to mention the risk of damaging your ear canal, ear drum or getting the cotton bud stuck if it breaks off (I’ve removed lots of them from people’s ears over the years!).

Hi all! My clinic will be closed next week while I take some time out to enjoy Christmas with my family! This is my number 1 tip for people who are prone to blocked ears ☝🏼 Olive oil is a natural and gentle way to soften and loosen excess ear wax so we’ll be able to remove it comfortably and quickly at your microsuction appointment. Stronger treatments sold in pharmacies usually contain sodium bicarbonate or a mild peroxide that breaks down the wax but this often becomes very runny and sticky and difficult to remove as well making the ear quite sore in some users. Sometimes the old school remedies are the best ones!

I’m asked this question a LOT! I’ve got to know some clients well over the last few years and we’ve learned how frequently their ears tend to block up but for others this is completely unpredictable - it could be months, years or never again! Are you suffering with blocked ears? Struggling to hear clearly? Noticing pain, itching or discomfort in your ear? Then get in touch!

A small amount of ear wax is perfectly healthy but if your ears become too blocked then you could start to experience some (or all) of the symptoms above. At my clinic I can gently and quickly relieve these symptoms via microsuction. This is the procedure of drawing air through a sterile suction tube which in turn gently lifts excess wax out of the ear without needing to apply any force or pressure towards the ear drum. By using a set of microscopic loupes I can also see into the ear throughout the whole procedure keeping it perfectly safe on your ears!
